I have thought of a logo design , How do I get it to look GOOD and not like I've just drawn it.

Which I have.

Is there a way to make it look more professional by myself on my computer or will I need to pay a company to do it for me?

It will be for clothing, the heading of paperwork and fliers, cards etc.

Shout for BOCO apparently ...

I did mine last week and literally drew it by hand, scanned it and touched it up with software.

THEN someone said BOCO was my person...

princessmel · 24/02/2008 10:39

Ok, how did you 'touch it up with software'!!?? I have no idea.

Where's Boco????

I scanned in a drawing and saved it then opened it in "paint" application that we have and coloured it in and messed around with colours and borders etc.

Once it is saved in your computer you can then add it to all sorts of documents and stuff.

I used a program called GIMP. It is a free take on photoshop.

My version 1 logo is on profile - as you can see it is super basic.

I drew the arms freehand. Scanned them and overlaid them on the other bits. I zoomed in and touched up pixel by pixel.

The L was drawn in GIMP
The wheels are clipart.

Honestly - see if Boco will help.

Or specifically ask for help on here. I think someone else offered to help.

I will happily my help if no-one else does, but I really am not the best person for the job.

SlightlyMadSecretSoundWinner · 24/02/2008 10:48

Going out now. But I will be back later

princessmel · 24/02/2008 10:49

Also, I have 2 possibilities. One seems 'younger' than the other. I want young btw. But the other one really highlights the particular aspect of the group I want highlighting iykwim.

Hmm need to combine too but don't want it to be too fussy.

I am not a logo designer. I am not an artist.
But I am happy to spend an hour or 2 doodling/refining/converting from pencil to pixels for you if you want - (as long as it is quite a simple design and not a complete portrait you want recreating). No obligation. If you don't like it you can chuck it in the recycling bin .

Alternatively Boco may see this post and swipe it off me.

SlightlyMadSecretSoundWinner · 24/02/2008 18:48

Oh and if you are interested me email is on my profile temporarily.

princessmel · 24/02/2008 20:02

Don't laugh at my drawings!!!

Your drawings are great. Nothing to be ashamed of there

princessmel · 24/02/2008 20:27

Thanks, I did them quickly to scan for you!!

My friend is very good at drawing. Much better than me. But we didn't know how to transform that into a proper design.

fizzbuzz · 24/02/2008 20:40

I used to do this for a living, and we did them ALL by hand!!!

You can scan them, or you can just draw them neatly. I did one as a favour for someone a few months ago, and it was all done by hand.

What do you need to know?

princessmel · 25/02/2008 13:36

Thanks fizzbuzz, SlightlyMadScientist is going help me. She's just done hers

I know you have this sorted now BUT for anyone that has Adobe Illustrator CS there is a great 'make good' button in it that I use for all my scanned drawings.
First I sketch something, then I go over the main lines of the drawing with a thin black marker pen and rub out the pencil lines. Then I scan it and open it in illustrator and click on 'Live Trace'. It converts your image to vector shapes which can then be sent directly to a printer. It does it in a really nice way too, sort of pen and ink style.

If you need a vector version and don't have Illustrator then email it to me ([email protected])
and I can do it for you. Once it's a vector image you can make it as large or as small as you like without losing any detail. ie. it isn't pixelated like it would be if you enlarged a bitmap.
