Craft Gift Ideas for 'Crafter'

Hi,

My SIL loves crafting, embroidery etc and picks things up really quickly (unlike me), she does crochet blankets in a week type thing.

I am thinking of getting her a craft kit for her birthday - perhaps punch needling? The results look lovely.

As is often the way with these things some kits are awful and some are great.

Would anyone have any recommendations please (say £40 max) for either punch needling or perhaps something else I haven't thought of?

TIA :

Unless she loves surprises, I'd give her a voucher for a craft place/website. People have given me stuff which is great in itself but often it's not what I use or would like to try. But if someone said, "Here's £40 to buy yourself some yarn," that would be brilliant. Guilt-free yarn buying!

Another vote for a voucher. People always assume I’m up for another craft but I love metalwork and I’d not want another craft especially a cheap kit. Cash or vouchers though would be great.

She may already have a punch needle kit squirrelled away!

I'd also suggest a voucher. I'd love £40 to spend at woolwarehouse, or love crafts.
Like a PP I've been given loads of kits that just aren't what I want. I'm very fussy though!

Very much agree with the other posters. A voucher for splurging on something she has been hankering after and can put into daily use is your best bet.

Thanks all, much appreciated! I got her an attic 24 crochet pack from wool warehouse before so yes, a voucher for there is a good idea!

Have you got a branch of Hobbycraft near to her? They have every known craft activity under the sun and at great prices. They do vouchers. Why not let her choose?

I'm a crocheter who just started to knit. Beautiful set of circular needles £48 on amazon..

You can buy attic 24 packs on ebay. There's an amazing bright one but it depends if you know her colours.

Some people like yarn bowls, winders, special project bags, but I just think it's unecessary tat. Very hard to pick a new hobby unless she's expressed interest.

You can get nice cross stitch sets for her to try one.

Most of the sets are terrible.

I do lots of craft and wouldn’t want a hobbycraft voucher at all. Most of the stuff there is a bit naff or overpriced!

A subscription to Mollie Makes maybe, it has a different craft to try most month. I also recently got a beautiful William Morris sewing box and a beautiful Liberty pin cushion that I was very pleased with! I wouldn’t normally buy them for myself but they are both so beautiful.

I agree Hobbycraft is over priced. Very much aimed at the lower end of crafting too.

If I had a voucher for there I'd probably spend it on some more Really Useful Boxes.

Unless you know someone's taste a cross stitch kit is a risky purchase. All the ones I've been gifted have quietly found their way unopened to the nearest charity shop.

I've never used Hobycraft. It's difficult isn't it, I don't really think you can guess another hobby for someone unless they've expressed interest. Cross stitch is the smallest and cheapest I could think of. I'd love to do it but my eyes say no 😂

Your SIL sounds like me. Wool warehouse voucher is good, hobby craft voucher OK.
Things I've been eyeing up..
Cool quilt patterns

Does she have some yarn pegs?
beeswax wrap kit

Etsy has some lovely sets, but I'm going to stop now 😁
