Joining new wool in crochet

Rookie crocheter here. I started a year ago and I've made three blankets.

I learned to change colours and join new wool with a magic knot. I like it and it looks neat but I've just read somewhere that they don't last.
My blankets have been washed a few times and are fine so far but I'm making a new one with lots of colour changes and wonder if I should change my method?

I’ve always done a double knot as my magic knots never last a long time. I think it depends on what you’re making and your tension though. If it’s working for you then stick with it!

I wouldn't use knots on my crochet. I pull the new yarn through on the last pull through, then crochet over the new and old end. Then weave in several times. If I'm doing a few rows I can carry it up a few rows catching it going back and forth.

@RockhoppersLovePoppers That's the way I've seen on lots of YouTube videos. It doesn't feel right to me that it's not knotted in any way.
Anyway I've tried it on my current WIP.
Do you do the same for new wool and colour changes?

I'm a bit old school with my crochet. Tiktok has ruined crochet to a degree with all the weird knots and using glue taking crazy shortcuts. Yes I do the same with all additions or changes. Truth is, you can do whichever you like. I'm just not from the school of knots.

I'm old school, my grandmother's made me use a Russian join. Takes longer but it lasts. Especially if you are using yarn with wool as the fibres felt slightly.

I use a Russian join too. Also taught to do so by my granny who would've flipped at using knots. 😂😂😂

I do a magic knot but leave the ends long and darn them in. I don't trust the knot on its own.

Seems like belt and braces is the way to go.

Same. I crochet in quite a length.
