Has anyone done a course at the School of Stitched Textiles?

I'm a really keen knitter and would like to take some steps to further my skills, explore more contemporary knitting techniques, and learn to design my own wearable pieces. I've found what looks like a great course at the School of Stitched Textiles – Knitting Skill Stage 3 and Stage 4. The courses are, however, very expensive... £2,695 for Stage 3 and the same for Stage 4 (each one takes up to 2 years to complete). I'd love to hear from anyone who has done a course with SST and whether they thought it was worth it? Is there anything similar that you would recommend above these courses?

I'm sure I could probably pick up fairly similar skills by self teaching, but I also love more structured studying and like the idea of having structured coursework. I do work, but am freelance, so could fit the coursework around my actual paid work!

@Footle Thanks so much for the reply! This is a City & Guilds course – It's just a very expensive one... Are there any others that you would recommend?

@monkeymagical , only just saw this, sorry.
Have you had a good look at local adult education resources?

@monkeymagical , I've just seen a recommendation from someone who knows about textile courses. Try Oxford Summer School, if you haven't already.

@Footle ohhh thank you so much! I’ll look into it tonight ❤️

Hiya, I just saw your message and I have actually completed a course with the School of Stitched Textiles. I did Hand Embroidery and I have to say, it was one of the best things I have ever done.

The structure of the courses are really helpful for providing focus and encouragement and the sense of achievement is enormous, and it felt really good working towards something - for me - away from the kids and chaos of normal life.

The thing that sold it for me was looking at the graduate stories on their site. So many people saying how helpful and supportive the tutors are. A lot of the students on my cohort went on to work for commission, teach and exhibit but I just love Hand Embroidery as a hobby. I hope that helps and good luck with whatever you choose to do.
