That is gorgeous!

Fairislefandango · 28/05/2023 14:25

Thank you! The colour doesn't come out well on the photo - it's a dark bottle green.

MerylSqueak · 28/05/2023 14:35

It looks lovely and squidgy @Fairislefandango

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 28/05/2023 18:22

That looks so intricate @Fairislefandango and I love the colour.

GlowWine · 28/05/2023 22:49

Wow @Fairislefandango that's very intricate and pretty. I also like the trug, did you have to stiffen it?
I'm on the last rows of a stashbuster cushion I'm knitting freestyle with no pattern (starting with a tube to reduce the need for making up). Around 10? years ago I bought some bargain packs of "funky fur" yarn. In child- suitable colours and 10-ball packs. Never got used... So a cushion seemed a solution, my teenager approves. I'll share a pic when it's finished. Mindless stocking stitch in the round is great for fast progress and suitable for knitting in (zoom) meetings...

StillNiceCardigan · 29/05/2023 11:13

I’ve just about caught up with the thread. Belated congratulations on the promotion @Fairislefandango and sending lots of good luck vibes to your DS @CrochetBug.

I ventured into our local town for the first time on Saturday and visited the wool shop. I fancied an easy summer project so it was nice to be able to browse actual patterns. I’ve made a start and now have the first stamp on my loyalty card!

Sending yarny-good vibes to you all from sunny Corfu! I have not brought my crochet with me (packed too many clothes to fit it in my suitcaseBlush), so filling my time with a good book and cocktails!

See you all on the other side (of half term...)

Fairislefandango · 30/05/2023 22:17

No it didn't need stiffening, @GlowWine - it's crocheted quite tightly, so it makes the fabric more rigid.

I've had a sudden flurry of crocheting granny squares over the last couple of days - I do that sometimes, and then don't make any more for months! This is my current favourite. It's called 'Begonia'.

Does anyone have any tips for storing yarn? I have some in boxes and some in the net bags that you get from wool warehouse but everything seems to end up impossibly tangled

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 01/06/2023 22:01

@tizwozliz I have some of these for yarn storage. I like them because they fold flat if not in use (ha!) and keep dust off my yarn. I find standard 100g balls fit really nice in them. I can get 4 lengthways across and two above long ways above them and then a couple of layers of these (I can take a photo if I’m not explaining properly), so they hold a decent amount of yarn. They have little handles so are easy enough to take out the cupboard and move around and they have a lid which is pretty good at keeping labrador fur out (but labrador fur does stick to the outside). However, I don’t actually know what is in them until I lift them out so my next purchase at some point will be tote scan labels (QR codes) to tell me what is inside each box.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 03/06/2023 23:52

I use plastic boxes with clippy lids @tizwozliz They all fit down the side of the bed so you can’t see them, they’re not pretty but I’m paranoid about carpet beetle larvae. We haven’t seen any for ages and I think I nuked them all with moth killer spray but still…

It’s absolutely boiling here and I’ve got a 40 min car journey tomorrow. I think I may start new socks during it so I’m not keeping a jumper on my lap.

rivercobbler · 04/06/2023 14:06

jumping on as I am developing an interest in crochet. Have managed a few granny squares so far :)

LancreWowhawk · 04/06/2023 22:48

Welcome. @rivercobbler!

CrochetBug · 04/06/2023 22:54

Welcome @rivercobbler do you have a project in mind for your squares? Or are they going to live in a cupboard forever like mine?

@tizwozliz my yarn is all in plastic boxes under the stairs. They were sorted by weight, but got jumbled up.

I've finished parts 1-5 of Sophie. It's working up quite quickly. I think the variety of stitches keeps me interested so I haven't yet discarded her like so many other things

GlowWine · 05/06/2023 12:23

Oh @CrochetBug you're making me want to learn crochet now. That's absolutely gorgeous.
I'm currently wearing a sweater I knitted in 1986 (I think !) it's been in storage for at least 15 years I would say, but unlike most other efforts from that era, It hasn't worn out (not for want of trying, it's been everywhere with me), and I could not part from it... Attaching a quick selfie, the real colours are bit more saturated.

rivercobbler · 05/06/2023 12:56

Thanks for the welcome! I'm just practicing so far - I can sort of imagine seweing them together into a lined tote bag for my teen dd.

That Sophie project is AMAZING. So beautiful! I would love to know the source pattern / instructions for that!

CrochetBug · 05/06/2023 21:03

@rivercobbler it's called Sophie's Universe. The pattern is here. https://lookatwhatimade.net/crafts/yarn/crochet/sophies-universe-cal-2015/sophies-universe-cal-2015-information/
I bought one of the yarn packs from Wool Warehouse because I got confused trying to pick my own, and realised the ones i was picking were practically identical to the ones in the pack anyway!

MerylSqueak · 06/06/2023 06:43

Wow @CrochetBug ! That's wonderful.

I love your square @Fairislefandango . Beautiful colour choices.

I have my yarn in an ottoman at the end of my bed. I knit bags for it to divide it up. I also gave a work bag that DH gave me but it's a bit unloved. I don't know why. I tend to use one of those little foldaway bags for the thing I'm working on at any one time.

MerylSqueak · 06/06/2023 06:44

Have not gave.

PussyGalore1 · 06/06/2023 10:20

Is anyone else doing the Georgia Farrel KAL textured tiles? She used Rowan felted tweed DK for the project x

Thank you so so much! I have my eye on this for after some cross stitch I am working on.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 08/06/2023 19:51

I’ve seen an interview with her and her designs are beautiful @PussyGalore1. Did you get a kit?

I’ve done a couple of KAL’s and I’ve decided I’m only doing ones where you already know what you’ll knit before it starts in future. I know people like the the mystery but not me!

I’ve come to a halt on my Peerie leaves jumper, I need to try it on so I can gauge how to do the neck as I changed the gauge and the size from the pattern but it’s been so hot I’ve not done any knitting or spinning.

lucysmam · 10/06/2023 09:48

Hey everyone, I hope you're all doing well?

I'm still chugging away at my "For..." and top - I think stitch counts are wrong on the top pattern though but it seems to be working out ok for now 🤞

I'm after some help sourcing a turquoise velvet or chenille (or just fairly thick tbh, at this point) yarn with some sparkle to it - Dd1's friend wants a turquoise penis similar to the Dick Deer I made dd1 a couple of years ago. I'd prefer not to pay a load of postage for one ball but don't mind if I need to. Any suggestions of brands or where to look?

GlowWine · 15/06/2023 20:24

Hello, I'm still here too. Still knitting two pairs of socks in parallel. I cast on the second set because I wanted a simpler pattern to knit on the train, and the first pair I had just started in the preceding week did not fit that requirement (cables)... I'm past the heel on the dark green pair now.

I have just ordered new yarn (alpaca+silk) for a shawl for my mum. I'm quite looking forward to it arriving, its Malabrigo Silkpaca in colour "Piedras"
Never made a shawl before, I wonder how portable it is once it gets bigger? I've hunted through my knitting needle collection to find the longest circular I have in the required size. The pattern is Reyna on Ravelry

And finally wanted to share my DDs latest masterpiece, she's finally finished her rainbow gloves - with a texting thumb flap.

Hello all. Oof it's hot! A bit hot for crafting.
@GlowWine that shawl pattern looks lovely, as does the yarn. I made a small shawl very similar to that pattern and it was really nice to make.

I went to my second guild meeting on Saturday and have joined. I should get my members' badge next time Smile Instead of the usual guest speaker slot, they had the show & tell resulting from the Chairwoman's Challenge, set a year ago, which was to make something that was 'wearable art'. They were very creative see pic)!
The new challenge is to produce something 'in book form', which is quite vague!
