that's pretty @Mumtothreeandadog

For some reason it came up with "sensitive content" warning over your picture!

Fairislefandango · 03/05/2023 22:24

Very pretty, @Mumtothreeandadog ! I think for my blankets I just edged them with 2 rounds of dc.

Taking my spinning wheel into school for tomorrow and Friday. Demos both days!

Jumper looking ok. I can never get it to look its proper bottle green in photos though, however much I fiddle with the settings!

Mumtothreeandadog · 05/05/2023 13:53

bruffin not sure what is sensitive about that photo. Ha ha

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 07/05/2023 11:22

Oh, I am miles behind! That is lovely, @GlowWine, and I'm so impressed with your progress @Mumtothreeandadog!

My crojo seems to have returned, at least for now. I've started the Maria top, and I'm fairly pleased so far. I don't love the method used for joining new colours and the instructions for which treble cluster the initial chain belongs to don't seem to make sense, so I'm kind of winging it. Time will tell how bad an idea this is!

My main concern is whether the holes between the clusters will be too big for it to be worn without something underneath.

I love the yarn though - it is so soft and lovely!

I trapped my finger in the conservatory door this morning and took quite a chunk out of the back of my finger! It’s my index finger on my right hand and on the top joint. I can hold a hook but it hurts but the plaster is getting in the way of feeling the yarn and holding it in place. So no crochet for me this weekend.

Nice colours in the jumper @QuantumWeatherButterfly.

GlowWine · 07/05/2023 14:50

Hooray it is done! My "coronation cardi" :-)
I'm really pleased with the sizing & length, struggling to take a good pic of it on at the moment as I can't get to my big mirror, but desperate to share. The collar is already on its second iteration, knitting it as per instruction didn't work for the yarn I'm using, it was far too floppy and gappy. You can still see some of that effect in the flat pic. But I'm wearing it right now, very comfortable and soft. I'm so pleased I did this, the original sweater was far too heavy and didn't get used much (hence the moths).

Oh, it is lovely, @GlowWine!

That looks lovely and cosy @GlowWine
Made a baby hat for friends GC and started a Caron cake jumper for me, but misread pattern and had to start body again

Wow @GlowWine! That’s beautiful! I really like the contrast colours, it’s worked so well!

@Fairislefandango I’ve been struggling taking a picture of green yarn too, try editing it and adjusting the warmth of the photo, that’s the only way I’ve been able to get something close. It comes out teal otherwise.

Lovely colours @QuantumWeatherButterfly!

I love self striping yarn @bruffin it’s so enjoyable to watch the colours change as you knit. I’ve never mastered matching up the sleeves though.

I’ve finally finished a massive spinning project and I’ve started knitting with the yarn. And I’ve managed to acquire another fleece from the last guild meeting I was at Blush This one is a brown Jacob so I’ve white black and brown now Smile but I’m spinning though the black fairly quickly so that will be out of the way soon!

GlowWine · 08/05/2023 15:24

Oh that's nice @bruffin I've been eyeing up those caron cakes, Noro Kureyon yarn and Cygnet boho spirit recently. Now I just need a pattern. @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound I didn't think it was possible to match up the arms? I can't even manage to match up self-striping socks half the time....

While I dream of Noro yarn, I've started a pair of slipper socks in my recycled yarn to reduce my stash a bit more.

faffadoodledo · 08/05/2023 16:56

May I show you my chunky cardi whlich I knitted for my daughter? I'm a beginner so am enjoying Wool and the Gang's easy instructions and videos. It's a Hope McCauley design which if you buy ready made is over £200!! Daughter was v keen but not willing to pay so much. So I knitted a version which has been licensed to WATG and was in a sale in March. A relative bargain!

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound
Yes the sleeve is bothering me on how to match it up.
The baby hat is self striping as well. Hayfields baby blossom. It comes in some lovely colours

bruffin · 08/05/2023 17:22

@faffadoodledo
Love the colours, it's a bit like the Harry Styles cardigan JW Anderson released the pattern for free and I made for one of DD's friends

faffadoodledo · 08/05/2023 17:25

Ooo @bruffin I am not wise to the ways of free patterns yet! I must investigate.
Tho my 25 per cent off did make me feel better!

bruffin · 08/05/2023 17:37

Have you discovered Raverly yet @faffadoodledo ?

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 08/05/2023 18:02

Ha, I applied for a job knitting for her @faffadoodledo but I backed out when I found out how many she wanted per week and how much she paid Grin Yours looks better than some I’ve seen done for her.

LancreWowhawk · 09/05/2023 10:31

@SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound @GlowWine It is the sleeve issue that puts me off using colour change yarn for clothing, much as I love them. My brain wants them to match each other, and the body.

I think getting them to match each other is OK, if a bit wasteful - I think you have to unwind multiple balls and match them up so you start at the same point in the colour repeat. I wouldn't mind doing that. However, because sleeves and body panels aren't (usually) the same size, I can't fathom how you would get the sleeves to match the body.

Yes, come join Ravelry, @faffadoodledo - lots of lovely free patterns there, although I usually do pay for mine if I can. Partly because I like a written pattern, and partly because I want to support the makers.

GlowWine · 09/05/2023 10:50

@LancreWowhawk yes I can understand that you will never be matching the sleeves to the body, because the striping will work out differently, so this is clearly not the yarn for you. It was this pattern below that got me thinking about the whole thing and check out the variegated yarns:
https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/magical-mitered-sweater
However on further inspection I got a bit scared by the complexity of the pattern so I'll probably stick to a plain top down pattern in the round instead, if I do go for a colourful project next!

Magical Mitered Sweater pattern by Jeri Riggs

This top-down seamless cardigan starts with just a few stitches at the back of the neck and grows into any size you wish. It can be theoretically worked with any gauge of yarn and to any desired size with a little bit of calculations, but here I have...

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 09/05/2023 11:08

@GlowWine I think if I ever do go for Cygnet Boho Spirit, it will have to be a scarf. Or something sleeveless:-)

That cardigan looks amazing though!

Honestly, this thread gets me in so much trouble! Reading this morning made me think I ought to sort out what I'm taking on holiday with me. don't want it to be my current WIPs as I want something that is worked in smaller pieces as that will be more practical, but ideally, something that I have the yarn for already.

Somehow though, I have fallen into a rabbit hole of researching yarn for this massive cardigan, which isn't the right thing AT ALL! Genuinely no idea how that happened!

Wow - those two cardigans look lovely but hard work!

I had my interview for Head of German at my school today and I got the job - yay! The process lasted all morning and I've taught all afternoon, so I'm knackered and longing to slump on the sofa with some knitting (and/or a large glass of wine) but I'm stuck at school for another hour and a bit!

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 11/05/2023 16:12

@Fairislefandango well done, that’s great news. Do both! You’ve got a promotion and deserve to just do everything that makes you happy.

GlowWine · 11/05/2023 16:29

Herzlichen Glückwunsch @Fairislefandango well done! Nice to see language teaching and German esp. going strong, it's a sadly declining choice, just heard another local school stopped teaching German gcse...

Fairislefandango · 11/05/2023 16:44

Vielen Dank, @GlowWine ! German is pretty healthy at my school, but it's one of the few.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 12/05/2023 09:42

I speak no German at all, but please do have a 'félicitations!' from me, @Fairislefandango!

bruffin · 12/05/2023 11:12

Congratulations @Fairislefandango
We did German at our school back in 70s which I think was unusual back then
