@Fairislefandango wow that is gorgeous!

@CrochetBug that is so very even, amazing crochet. I'm completely ignorant of crochet, but what is that stitch called please?

VittysCardigan · 29/01/2023 12:57

@GlowWine Lovely work. I am contemplating learning how to knit socks. I am a very basic knitter though and a bit scared!

VittysCardigan · 29/01/2023 12:58

@Fairislefandango That is gorgeous!

I have ordered a neck/boob light from Amazon

Sirzy · 29/01/2023 13:10

First hat made along with some fingerless mitts

@GlowWine those socks are beautiful. I love the look of the self striping yarns. But I don't think they work with crochet.
The stitch on my jumper is half-treble (but in an American pattern it would be called half-double)
I decided the more pink I did the more I hated it. So I've just frogged about 20 rows and started again with the green. It's much nicer.

@Sirzy that's a lovely set.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 29/01/2023 14:59

Dithering. I’ve finished the body and I either need to order more fibre to spin or use the wool I already have that is commercially spun from the same fibre. I could probably get away with it because it’s ribbing I reckon.

It’s supposed to be oversized but that means I can’t add arms to the long armholes so there’s no point adding enough fibre to an order to add sleeves… I might start it with what I have and see if it works then rip it out if it doesn’t.

Lovely socks and hat and gloves @GlowWine and @Sirzy!

Love your slipover @Fairislefandango!

Sunshineandgin · 29/01/2023 16:08

I've ended up being a bit of a lurker.

Loving seeing everyone else's projects!

Finished my hanging basket, realised I don't like using t-shirt yarn as it's so variable on thickness. I have enough left to make a second basket and then I'll be on the look out for some tube yarn that someone else mentioned as think that will look lovely for this.

That looks good @Sunshineandgin! Crocheting with t-shirt yarn or that paper based type always sounds like a nightmare to me but it turned out great!

I tried my bought yarn in the ribbing last night and now I’ve checked in daylight you can’t tell the difference by looking though you can by touch I think. Provided no one starts feeling my jumper I should be fine Grin

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 30/01/2023 13:50

So many gorgeous things! @Fairislefandango I especially LOVE that top! Is it sleeveless? I am planning to have a go at this sweater a bit later in the year, which is vaguely similar, but with sleeves. I only have half a poncho, two summer tops, some bits for DD to keep her happy and a jumper for DH (requested at the weekend) to go before I start it😂

First finished object of the year. Glad to get it done, started it well over a year ago but lost interest v quickly. Didn't add the 4th row of border as i decided i didn't like it so frogged it. No idea what i fancy making next.

@QuantumWeatherButterfly that's a lovely Sweater, my current pattern test is for that designer. Her patterns are so easy to follow.

@VittysCardigan I love those colours. Really really pretty.

StillNiceCardigan · 30/01/2023 20:15

I can’t keep up with you all! I’ve been dipping in and out of the thread trying to follow everyone’s lovely projects. We are in house buying hell thanks to our vendor who tried to be really unreasonable just before exchange and we nearly pulled out. Anyway our vendor has backed down now and it’s still all limping along. It looks like our vendor has managed to delay everything by several weeks but we’ll hopefully get to exchange by the end of next week fingers crossed. The whole thing has been so stressful and I’ve now come down with laryngitis.

Fairislefandango · 30/01/2023 22:21

Yes it's sleeveless, @QuantumWeatherButterfly . It was really fun to make, required no sewing up (yay!) and I think it's the most consistent bit of Fairisle knitting I've managed. I'd quite like to make another one in different colours!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 31/01/2023 07:21

Yes, the thread is moving very quickly at the moment, @StillNiceCardigan - as I hope you do soon! Good luck with everything.

@CrochetBug oh, that is good to know! I bought the pattern yesterday and I won't lie, it's a bit daunting - colourwork isn't the only thing in there that will be new to me, it includes a short rows and extended single crochet too. But I still think I'm going to have a go, and might even splash out on some swish yarn to make it with.

That is gorgeous, @VittysCardigan!

May i share a small triumph? I spotted what I thought was an error in the poncho pattern, queried it, and had it confirmed that it is indeed wrong and will be updated! Maybe it's a bit weird of me, but I'm oddly proud I've improved enough to realise when instructions genuinely don't make sense.

Im about 1/4 of the way through panel 2, so I probably have a couple of weeks work left to go on it.

WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally · 01/02/2023 06:59

@StillNiceCardigan sending good house juju your way! Fingers crossed you are in by the end of the week. We are viewing a house today and I’m pretty sure we’re going to offer on it, so better suss out my yarn storage.

@QuantumWeatherButterfly that jumper is gorgeous. I’d love to put it on the list but I don’t think I would have enough of the main colour to do it. I’m trying really hard not to buy yarn because my stash is a bit unmanageable but I have sorted it all and taken an inventory.

@VittysCardigan I love the blanket. I really love the simplicity of simple striped blankets but doing them I get so bored.

I’ve not done any crochet for a few days and it’s all put away in the cupboard for the valuations. I’m seeing my brother’s gf this weekend but I’ve not managed to finish her counting toy. I also need to finish the twiddle mitt. I’ve got about 10 stitches of the inner side to finish but I ran out of yarn. I have some more black chunky but I’m not sure which box it is in and I can’t be bothered to pull them all out. So I’m going to rummage through the ottoman as there might be some aran in there and it won’t make a difference for the last few stitches on the inside piece.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 01/02/2023 11:08

Finished my slipover, and it’s a good illustration of what a good soak after knitting can do, here’s the before and after😂It’ll need a bit of tweaking as it shrinks as it drys but it all just relaxed and I can actually see the X pattern now.

Really chuffed with it and I’ve learnt a lot while I knit it. I would definitely not spin this fibre worsted in future, I’m doing the next bit in a woollen long draw and it’ll be much lighter and I should get more yardage.

Thats pretty @VittysCardigan!

Oh that’s brilliant when designers respond @QuantumWeatherButterfly! I’ve done a test knit for someone before and I completely avoid her patterns now as she completely ignored any feedback about errors in the pattern and published it anyway Confused I think she just wanted the social media bit of the testing.

So lovely to find this thread, may I join?
I am both a knitter and a crocheter and have made a resolution that 2023 will be the year of finishing Wips and using stash. At the start of January I went through all of my various cubby holes and pulled out all my hibernating Wips and having realised that I get easily bored I am trying to set smaller goals month to month for them rather than promising to finish one all at once.
for January’s goals I am working on knitting a ranunculus sweater, a double knitting scarf and a linen tee and crochet wise a backpack that I bought a kit for in the first lockdown and a mouse in a suitcase for my niece which is also doing a good job of using up odd balls of yarn and ends of other projects.
My current favourite is definitely the mouse in the suitcase which is just adorably cute. The pattern is by Laura sutcliffe and available on Ravelry, I have made some adaptations to used the yarn I already have and am using plastic mesh to make the structure of the suitcase.

I love her patterns. I have done the suitcase, Halloween mice and Christmas mice and made up my own Easter mice.

BooksAndHooks · 01/02/2023 16:02

The thread got away from me. I’m about 5 pages behind.

temperature blanket up to date for January. Think I misjudged how much this is going to cost in yarn though.

StillNiceCardigan · 02/02/2023 09:02

Thanks @QuantumWeatherButterfly and @WeCanLiveLikeJackAndSally will happily take any good vibes. Everyone is still hoping to exchange on Friday and then move the week after but I’ve no idea if that’s possible. We are getting loads of pressure from further down the chain but our solicitor does need to make sure everything is right with the purchase particularly as the seller has been so unreasonable.

@BooksAndHooks I used some wool from hobby craft for mine that was relatively cheap to keep the cost down.

I’ve managed a bit of knitting as I didn’t allow DH to pack all my stash. Just using up some bits of sock wool.

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 02/02/2023 13:28

That looks fantastic, @SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound - I'm a bit scared of blocking. I have no idea whether my pins (inherited from my Grandma) are stainless, I'm not sure how wet to get things, the cat will sit on anything left out flat, and I chucked away all our old foam mats after DD systematically destroyed them as a toddler! But I didn't realise how much different it could make until now.

@StillNiceCardigan That yarn is so pretty!

@BooksAndHooks This is why I am still resisting blankets, though I do think the 50 stitches one will happen. Probably.

I'm roughly half way through poncho panel 2, it's looking good, and pretty much the same dimensions as panel 1, so far. Then I need to connect the shoulders, check the length (with optional extra step of panic buying more yarn if it needs to be longer) and add the edging, and I'm done - hopefully next weekend.

Then it's on to this top, in mint green.

OP posts:
SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 02/02/2023 14:55

Thanks @QuantumWeatherButterfly, the only problem now is that it didn’t shrink as much as expected and it’s really moved past oversized into nope, just too big! I’m going to run two seams down from the arms to take it in a bit. I think that’ll be the easiest fix and it’ll add a bit of structure.

I didn’t pin it, just gave it a long soak! It was sopping when it came out but I have a clothes spinner and I used that to get most of the water out.

That top is lovely!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 02/02/2023 15:48

Ah, speaking of things being too big - my mum made DH a jumper for his birthday, and it is way too big. It is absolutely gutting, as it is just gorgeous - lovely yarn, subtle but interesting texture, and immaculately made. But it is so big as to be comical. I feel awful - there is so much love and hard work in that jumper, and it was made to the measurements I took from an existing jumper of DH's which are somehow completely wrong.

OP posts:
SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 02/02/2023 18:21

Oh no @QuantumWeatherButterfly! That is gutting Sad I haven’t measured it but I think my gauge slipped more than I realised, I’d went down a needle size as I knit when I noticed but I should have went down more.

It doesn’t really matter with mine, it was more me playing than anything but your poor mum!
