Anyone knit a nice ladies Aran sweater, what yarn pattern?

Hi,
I have knit an Aran sweater before (for my 19 year old DS) and while it turned out well and he loves it I hated the feel of the yarn (traditional Aran I guess) and it was a bit masculine looking for me.
I also lost the knitting pattern book (all Aran knits) it came from 😭 and don't want to buy another one.

Has anyone here knit an Aran sweater in a softer yarn (maybe even alpaca?) and anyone have a link to a nice pattern for a ladies knit?

thanks

Here are some free patterns for women’s Aran cabled jumpers in Aran or worsted, a similar weight yarn.

You don’t have to use the yarn specified in the pattern, just something like it. A yarn shop would advise you, or we can if you ask again.

If you click on any of the pattern pictures it will take you to a page about the pattern. From there you can can click on “projects” and see what other people have made using that pattern.

If there’s one you particularly like you could make your jumper in the same yarn and colour.

Thanks, had forgotten about Ravelry, hadn't used it in years, still have my log in!
Some nice ones there, will have a look.

For example, I liked the look of this pattern which over 300 people have made, but when I looked at the photos of people of about my size wearing it I didn’t think it was flattering to someone of my size and shape.

I like this one. Only 35 people have knitted it and made a project page, but several have made comments so you can see what they thought.

As to the Yarn - current Aran is generally not wool so I would look at other yarns with a similar weight or chunky yarns knitted in an Aran style with a good wool content - won't be cheap though but with all the knitted effort I tend to spend on the yarn as otherwise its wasted effort!!

the two patterns in the message above mine the first one loses shape as the neckline is week so in larger sizes I suspect it would mis shape easily. The second one is better but depending on how they have done the pattern may not size up well due to the straight nature of the arms and bodies.

yes I like the second one (although there are a lot of diamonds so lots of cables!) and the first one in the original search, the honeycomb aran. What do you mean by 'current Aran'?

Yes, I see what you mean about sizing up. Some Aran patterns just add extra stocking or moss stitch sections at the edges, which is not interesting.

I have made this cardigan, which has extra cables etc for bigger sizes. I didn’t suggest it because it’s not a jumper and not free, but the principle is there. Depending on what size the OP wants, that could be something to look for in project notes.

As a woman who is blessed with a generous bust I always prefer a set in sleeve, whereas many Aran patterns have raglan sleeves or dropped shoulder designs probably because it makes adjusting cables for the shaping easier.

I may be misremembering, but alpaca may not hold its shape and bounce well, especially losing its elasticity in ribbed cuffs and hems, so OP may prefer an alpaca blend rather than pure alpaca? That may help the cables stand out, too.

Good point about the alpaca, think its best to go to yarn shop and have a feel myself. Like the cardigan but I prefer the traditional Irish Aran with the diamond pattern.
