Honestly, I do have a brain but I can't seem to find it after having 2DCs.

I followed the tartar recipe given by lovely MNtter. So, it seemed fine, DS2 was in his element with the "what? I get to play with this? and squish it? and there will be no telling off" look on his face, but it left a residue on my hands, like when you play with pastry.

What did I do wrong? I didn't know if cups meant the actual measurement of cup of whether I could just use a cup, I went with the latter but used an actual measuring spoon for the cream of tartar and the oil.

Any advice gratefully recieved.

Is salt dough the same as home made play doh?

fryalot · 31/01/2008 16:11

yeah, frazzled, it's basically the same thing. NOt sure if it uses the same recipe though.

Fizzy - I think it does leave a kind of residue on your hands - it kind of is pastry, so it sounds right that it acts like pastry.

It's always left a kind of crustiness on my hands when I've made it, but it washes off ok so I just assumed it was normal.

i make play doh but would like the recipe for salt doh. You can bake that afterwards, right?

Fizzylemonade · 31/01/2008 16:48

Oh you see now this is all totally over my head!!! I just made the salt dough recipe that was kindly put on here for me so 1 cup water, 1 cup plain flour, 1/2 cup salt, 1 tbsp cream of tartar and 1 tbsp cooking oil. Could I bake this if I wanted???? [confused emoticon]

If it is meant to leave a bit of a residue then that is fine, we did play with it for ages, and I do mean "we". I just love the fact that it doesn't smell, my DH hates the smell of play-doh with a passion.

Thanks Squonk.

Sounds like my play doh recipe, it does leave slight residue but its great and keeps for an eternity! Salt dough is different as you can make stuff with it then bake it in oven and keep it.

My hands always feel salty after playing with making it.

If it leaves actual dough, then add more flour and knead it.

fizzylemonade, you did cook it first, didn't you? (have had this prob on mn before)
