Temporary patches

I want to put temporary patches all over a pair of trousers. I could stitch them on, but that would take a long time (and look very scrappy). If I used some form of Bondaweb, would I be able to remove the patches without ruining the trousers? Or is there another method?

No i dont think so. Wonderweb eventually gives out on hems but i dont know of a reliable alternative for your needs.

Youd probably be better off tacking them on with a fine needle and thread. Whats the reason and how long do they need to last? And whats the trouser material?

It's just for a fancy dress, so only needs to last one day, but we would like it to look neat.

Is there a way to remove Wonderweb or Bondaweb? I could re melt them by ironing, and then peeling the patch off, but there might be glue residue left on the trousers.

Trousers would probably be jeans. Cords were the first choice, because of the colour, but I think it would be much harder to remove the adhesive from cord.

I wouldn't recommend any adhesive.

If the material isn't too delicate, I'd tack on (loosely stitch) with pins (safety pins) or fine thread and needle.

Oh jeans or cords you should be fine for pinning/tacking.

LeMoo · 17/10/2022 23:40

You'd probably only need corner stitches

Hemline Double sided tape www.johnlewis.com/double-sided-dressmaking-tape-19m-white/p1761477?sku=233988896&s_ppc=2dx92700071680099434_mixed_home_BAU&tmad=c&tmcampid=2&gclid=CjwKCAjw-rOaBhA9EiwAUkLV4m4P9GQI0VILJ0K5RjSHZonF9PrMpKdfMKcH5g-7jG7CPvbDqJzIOhoCsXcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

I hope the link works, you can get it from Amazon, hobbycraft as well as JL.

I use it on blouses between the buttons so they don’t gape. Easy to remove but works.

Through reading up on the boob tape I found dissolving quilters' tape, which sounds perfect for the job. I'll have a trial run with that this weekend. If it doesn't work I'll spend half-term sewing patches. (The things we do for our children. I can tell you this, though: I'm not doing it alone. By the end of half-term dc will know how to patch their clothes!)
