Making Soap/Body Wash/Diffusers for Beginners and Is it Economical?

Found myself having the realisation that I could be making it myself rather than buy these spendy but-oh so-nice products out there, though, I'm wondering if it's worth doing so? I have about 15 essential oils already but not sure about the other ingredients. I'd like to make something that will be gentle on the body, environmentally-friendly and without animal cruelty involvement. I don't have lots of dosh to fritter, but if it's worth the investment, I might stretch my budget to about £30 for the outlay.

Has anyone gone through this themselves? If so, what resources can you recommend and is it worth going through the effort for?

I recommend you joining some of the UK soap making groups on Facebook . There are lots of melt and pour bases available from soap suppliers these days but if adding essential oils you'll need the sds for each oil to determine the safe levels you can add.
If you make anything that touches the skin to sell or even gift, they have to have a cosmetic assessment and be entered into the UK portal.

Thanks, @Sugarplumfairy65 I'll cleck the groups out. I have no intention of selling them. They're purely for my own use.

I've dabbled and it's honestly not worth it. Diffusers have lots of (nasty) chemicals which make them smell good for so long, my natural essential oils one was utterly crap, and not cheap to make. Same with soaps, I used basic melt and pour bases and added essential oils and other stuff. They texture was all bubbly (I would have had to buy an alcohol spray to overcome this) and they didn't lather well and just looked rather meh. I prefer to pay a small business who does a good job a little bit extra and have something decent!

I tried but it wasn't worth the faff! Now I drop some essential oil on the filter of the vacuum and it puts out a nice light smell. Doesn't last more than a day but gives me a reason to keep cleaning 😂

Thanks for your replies. I tend to find a good stuff that I pick up from hols or faraway places I visit but don't use them straightaway, then when I use them, I don't remember the brand names. It's so difficult thesedays to find something so good. I love a good scent that has staying power.

I know that diffusers are full of nasties, so I asked how to make a friendlier version. In posh shops, you find they have an alluring scent that they have, but I've not been courageous enough to ask what they use. I've tried those steam vaporisers with essential oils, but over time, you get bored of the smell.
