Sewing machine getting stuck.

Brand new machine.
When I start to stitch something makes the bobbin thread stick or gather .
I end up with two threads coming out of the plate. The wrong thread has snapped apparently and needs a forceful tug to remove it.
I've been at this for hours now and just can't work it out.

Probably a silly question but are you threading the bobbin into the case the correct way? I had a similar problem with a new machine because the bobbin has to be wound the other way to my old one!

RockinHorseShite · 04/08/2022 15:53

I'd agree that it's sounds most likely a problem with the way the bobbin has been put in. If that doesn't work, check your are using the correct needles for you fabric

I think this can sometimes be due to tension, or if your fabric is too thick. But I'm no expert! Maybe have a google, see if there are any YouTube tutorials specific to your machine?

memyselfi · 04/08/2022 15:58

I put the bobbin in according to the diagram but I'm tempted to try it the other way anyway .
Even without fabric this happens, literally on the first stitch .
The needle can't be blunt , it's new .

Appreciate the replies Grin

I find when this happens I fully unthread and fully rethread the machine and it often solves it by magic!

Yes I'm going to start from scratch again I think , after a coffee .

Does your bobbin thread go under a little hook? I found with mine you can't just place it under - it needs a little tug until it clicks.

timtam23 · 08/08/2022 16:32

I usually take the bobbin out and put it back in again, completely rethread the machine, check that the needle tension is correct, clean out any lint etc from under the feed dogs and then try again on some scrap fabric first

put a newly wound bobbin in the machine. If you have not wound the bobbin to the right tension, this may happen.

pastabest · 09/08/2022 14:21

Sounds like a bobbin tension issue to me.

If it isn't though and you see certain that the obbin has been wound correctly and is inserted correctly then something that can cause an issue is if there is a thread tail on the bobbin (where you poked it through to wind it). If there is snip that off and try again.

What machine are you using? Also what brand of thread?
