New cushions for garden furniture, can I make them?

A 2 seater bench and 2 armchairs bought in 2020.
The cushions that came with the furniture were thin but are now like pancakes as we sit outside whenever it is comfortable to do so, including Spring and Autumn.

I am wondering if I can make replacements by ordering thicker foam and covering them with waterproof material using a non iron sticky tape product I have seen on line.
I do have a sewing machine but my skills are very, very rusty.

Has anyone tried this? I would line some floral material and ready made is extortionate!

In my experience non iron sticky tape doesn't stay sticky for very long. To make slip covers for cushions is easy. Really. Look at how a pillowcase is made. Take it apart and follow the pieces(cut smaller obviously) to cut your fabric to make covers. Use ordinary velcro to 'seal' the ends.

I made 2 huge ones (rectangular box type) for a large garden seat for a dd.
After careful measuring, I ordered ready cut foam.

Ditto careful measuring for how much fabric - top and bottom pieces plus separate sides and end pieces.

You tube was a help.
I made patterns for the pieces, using the paper printed with 1 cm squares, got it from JL but available online.
I don’t sew much but am reasonably competent with the machine.

I made them with zips, to come off for washing, and was at a loss at first to find zips long enough in JL haberdashery, to go round an end.
It was dh who suggested using two, to meet in the middle! Dhurr!

The cushions turned out very well. Not cheap, and quite a lot of work, but worth it.

Second the tape, it will drive you mad.🤬

I made new cushions for our chairs from a shower curtain. You can get some really nice patterns now, it is easy to sew being thin and it is waterproof! Ours stay out all summer and the rain just runs off them

in terms of construction, covering foam is really hard; I’m actually doing this now and having a fair amount of trouble as the new foam seems to stick to the fabric, making it very difficult to put the cushions into the case. If you are not very accomplished , making a simple case like a pillowcase would be better.

Seam it up virtually all the way round,,right sides together, except for a gap, then turn it fright way out ( leaving that typo it’s appropriate 🥴) . Use loose stuffing to fill them, shove it through the gap, give a good shake and stuff some more in. Then you can sew up the gap.
I have no intention of taking the covers off, they don’t get dirty because the rain cleans them. So no need for zips etc
apologies if this is too much information.

Thank you all for your replies!!

I will discuss with DW as she has very good practical skills, dig out the machine and give it a try!
