Knitting pattern required for a cardigan I can wear at work

Having discovered that I have 3 large packs of wool in the cupboard and no winter woolies for work I have decided to dust off my knitting needles and knit something (I am ignoring the laughter from DH and comments about a jumper I started knitting for DS1 3 years ago).

So where do I go to find some nice patterns?

Rowan do a large selection of books with some really unusual but easy patterns - you can check their website or try a good needlecraft shop - John Lewis stock their books.

what ply of wool is it?

Debbie Bliss's booklets also have some lovely patterns in DK and Aran weight yarns, they are often very stylish. John Lewis or a good local shop should have a selection, the shop should be able to help you work out which yarn is suitable.

Unfortunately the better quality patterns do tend to be in the booklets or magazines rather than loose leaf patterns.

I think they are all packs of DK. I will check before I purchase a pattern. As I potentially have sufficent yarn for 3 cardigans I will look at the booklets when I venture out for a pattern.
I am planning a trip to Solihull for a couple of things in a couple of weeks time and so may well pop into John Lewis there.
Thank you.

I would look for free online patterns first. Knitty is a good starting place, but it's also worth looking at places like knitting pattern central. Garnstudio Drops Design have zillions of free patterns too- let me know if you need links!
