Blocking a crochet blanket

I'm just doing the last round on my first ever adult sized crochet blanket but as usual I haven't got the tension on my border 100% right so the blanket doesn't sit as well as I'd like.

I've never blocked anything before. I've used 100% acrylic yarn, so do you think I should block, and if so how?

Soaking it in water versus putting it in the washing machine? I'm scared of both, but I don't know if spraying it with water would be as effective.

I've seen blocking combs which look like they make it much easier than pins.

All advice gratefully received.

The only way to block acrylic is with steam I think.

I'm late to the party but I'd redo the border if possible using a bigger hook. That should stop any unnecessary wrinkles. I've learnt this lesson the hard way 😂

Yes, painful as it is to frog an entire border, I agree.

The first row of the border was trebles and when I laid it out it looked like I had to many. It was when I did the 6 rows of doubles that it tightened up. I've ordered the blocking combs so I'm going to give that a try first.

The thought of redoing the border is awful! However for my next blanket I'll bear in mind the tip to size up. What size do you normally go up? 1mm?
