Cross stitch beginner help?

My daughter has said she fancies starting cross-stitch and framing them.
She's in her late 20's so any ideas for where to get modern designs that might appeal?
A foolproof beginner kit idea would be fantastic if any of you have suggestions?

Geeky stitching company does kits. Uk based and very beginner friendly

Caterpillar cross stitch (uk based)
Frosted pumpkin stitchery (US but cute designs)

Don't get Joy Sunday, they are really bad quality . I made that mistake and bought from them on Amazon.

I usually bought from Hobbycraft after that. I also purchased a pattern from Esty but I much prefer kits.

Bothy threads are really good quality and lovely patterns ,just depends what your daughter likes.

For a beginner, try googling ‘stamped cross stitch kits’
You don’t have to follow a chart, just stitch over the coloured squares
Once done, soak in warm water and the dye will soak away leaving your work
Amazon and eBay sell them

Happy stitching-it really is the best hobby

I am a complete beginner and am halfway through this. It is great quality and has really clear instructions and everything you need.

Ebay usually for different kits

AwkwardPaws27 · 26/02/2022 21:24

Innocent Bones.
They do a bi-monthly kit called MOOD which is great, you get a little package every two months with a modern kit (previous designs have been things like tarot or tattoo inspired designs) plus themed accessories; I've had things like funky scissors, a needle holder, zipped bag for work in progress, a notebook, wildflower seeds, chocolate).

Have a browse of Lakeside Needlecraft

Seconding Bothy Threads. If you look on Amazon they do some really nice black thread on coloured Aida ones, which are very easy for a beginner as you're not constantly changing colours.

I find samplers the most satisfying and easiest to work on. Riverdrift do some lovely ones riverdriftneedlework.com/

PoppityBoo · 26/02/2022 22:16

I love the Historical Sampler Company. I could buy them all!

The Make Arcade do cute cross stitch kits. www.themakearcade.co.uk/

DMC do free patterns. I started with a little kit from ebay then bought some Jo Verse books second hand, they are great as it teaches you technique and how to customize designs. There are patterns on in the web for virtually anything. I'm currently making Marvel lego characters for my sons room bought the pattern on Etsy.

CottonClara has some lovely kits but I’m hooked on StitchPeople at the moment, I’ve stitched quite a few portraits for friends and family. You can download the book and it has hundreds of different ideas in it.
