I have christmas money to spend... need inspiration

I don't do much craft stuff these days, don't get the time. But just can't help myself when it comes to buying new things.

If you had £50ish to spend, what would you buy yourself?

swarovski crystals or debbie bliss wool

suzi2 · 26/12/2007 22:04

I have a swarovski crystal addiction as it is... though you can never have too many sparkly things!

Can't knit to save myself...

I just spent my xmas money on a triangle loom.

Can't wait - am picturing me sitting of an evening with my loom in my lap making triangles for bags, scarves, afghans . . . I know what everyone's getting for xmas next year

maximummummy · 27/12/2007 12:45

greebo - what do youdo with it is it for weaving or crochet or knitting?

GreebosWhiskers · 27/12/2007 13:40

It's for weaving. There should be a link somewhere in the text of the ebay listing for instructions on using it. It looks fab & apparently doesn't use much yarn to make each triangle. It suggests making a bag as your first project as it only takes 5 triangles - 2 for the front, 2 for the back & one for the flap.

Can't wait [impatient emoticon]

p.s. - the one I ordered is ozark blue - if you take a look in their ebay shop you should see it as there were a few.

suzi2 · 27/12/2007 21:24

That looks intriguing greebos - I might even manage that!

DD got one of these for xmas greebos - thought it might interest you as you're into crochet. It's absolutely gorgeous - stuffed firm enough to stand but still soft.

Aww he's lovely suzi2. I love crochet & have just finished amusing myself making hats for dd3 & ds. dd was very specific about hers as she chose the yarn & demanded a bobble when I wanted to add a flower but the one for ds was great fun 'cos he's only 13 months so I got to please myself with that one - am looking forward to trying his new monster hat on him tomorrow I'll blog them when dh is sufficiently recovered from his bout of food poisoning to get the camera out (and no it wasn't the turkey that did it)

I ended up buying a sterling silver chain maille bracelet kit. I quite fancy getting into chain maille as it's something I can do without dragging all my stuff out.

suzi2, SOunds fun. Have you got a link to the kit I fancy having a look ?

suzi2 · 29/12/2007 20:28

www.maillequeen.co.uk/beginner-kits.htm

There's loads of instructions on the web for making them, but I figured that if I had everything I needed in one package it would mean I'd actually do it! Delivery seems expensive but it's next day before 1pm (not that that helps me with new year approaching...)

spoil yourself with some of the luxurious gift sets being sold for half price in Boots and then some nice new flattering underwear in the M&S or Debnhams sale

BabiesEverywhere · 29/12/2007 20:43

Looks great fun.

Does the kit include the two pairs of chain nose pliers needed to open/close the chain rings ?

CharlieAndLolasMummy · 29/12/2007 20:45

am somehow pmsl at greebo's relatives getting lots of triangles...

you must learn to knit, it is brilliant if you don't have much time, and also very portable.

suzi2 · 29/12/2007 22:46

I don't think pliers are included, but I have some anyway.

Technically I can knit. I can follow patterns and do stitch combinations. But my knitting is awful. My mum said I'm too wound up and the tension is just so tight!

OP posts:
BabiesEverywhere · 29/12/2007 22:48

Fair enough, I suppose it was a bit much to expect pliers at that price

I would love to see the piece when you have finished it

suzi2 · 29/12/2007 22:54

I'll be sure to post a photo. Do you think mumsnet will be around in 2027?

BabiesEverywhere · 29/12/2007 23:06

LOL, Are you planning to do one ring a day !?!

Roll on 2027
