how do you store your children's paint, paint pots, brushes etc?

DD (nearly 3) has just been given a great early christmas gift of paint, non-spill paint pots, brushes, paper etc and can't wait to get cracking with it. I'm eager too but just concerned about where/how to store it all to make it easy to get hold off but safe.

Any tips please?

TIA

I have all mine in a big tupperware box as however well you try to clean painting things they never seem to get 100% clean, and I end up with bits of paint everywhere. Everything can then be put away neatly and is all together when you next need it. I also do the same for her colouring and sticking things

i have a plastic crate that all our craft stuff is bunged in

known as "mummies box of tricks"!!

(great present)

Tupperware box for paint, brushes, dabbers. Stored, along with paper, crayons, stickers etc, inside an old Christmas hamper.

All crammed into a Farrow and Ball paper bag (at least it's themed) and stored just inside the back door into the garage. Easily accessible for me, but not for dd

thanks all. I am having a pre-christmas big tidy up tonight so I'll keep my eyes peeled for suitable storage boxes/tubs as I'm clearing out old bits and pieces.

I keep all my stuff at pre-school - i.e. we have none in the house DD does all her "creative" stuff there!!

We have a high set of floating shelves in the playroom and everything is stored in see through plastic boxes on these shelves.

I can see, so can he, I get when he asks

HE CAN'T TOUCH!

mckenzie · 17/12/2007 21:11

what are floating shelves muppetgirl?

The ones that you can't see the brackets. They appear to 'float' on the wall. Oh god, I've made them appear so much more than they actually are. Especially as with dh's diy they don't really 'float' more hang off the wall at a jaunty angle

mckenzie · 17/12/2007 22:05

i still dont know what you mean but they sound great

  1. out of reach, even by climbing

  2. in a plastic box with lid, for each sort of thing, i.e. one each for poster paint, finger paints, crayons and pencils, smaller one for brushes and paint and water pots

stuck stickers the same as the wall (rockets!) on the boxes so they 'blend in' to the room

thirdwisexmasmonkey · 17/12/2007 23:55

ds has his stuff in a big lidded plastic box, he calls it his goody box

I sacrificed one of my kitchen cupboards to DDs art stuff. The painting gear is in a cardboard box so it can be pulled out together. Theres room for A3 paper in there too and a shoebox full of play-doh. (she's nearly 9 and had that out this weekend for the first time in yonks! Remember this stuff will be around for some years and GROW!)

We also have one of those plastic drawers-on-wheels contraptions in the kitchen for smaller paper, stencils, stickers, felt tips - stuff that from even quite a young age I wanted to be accessible to her.

handlemecarefully · 18/12/2007 00:03

In a big plastic box in our cloakroom

discoverlife · 18/12/2007 00:03

Stackable, lidded crates, for everything except books.

What about the holidays Calif? I have a conservatory that we use as a playroom, everything is wipeable. Paints stored in ikea's trofast storage system (a tall one so my little 19month old can't get to it) in one big tub.

yulemoonfiend · 22/12/2007 12:05
