Introduction to knitting for a 4 year old?

DD age 4.5 keeps begging me to teach her to knit…now I can do some basic knitting and knitted the kids hats and scarves when they were little but I’m no expert. I’ve looked at introductory knitting kits for kids but they are from age 6 up….any suggestions? I’d like to do something with her but a bit stumped! Is 4.5 too young? I’d like to encourage her but don’t want to put her off by doing something too complicated!

Would something like a knitting dolly (?) or knitting frame be a way to start? Sorry mine were older but if your DD is showing interest and determination? Random item of this type on amazon:

Mira Handcrafts Complete Knitting Loom Kit – 4 Knitting Looms, 4 Pompom Makers, 3 Plastic Needles, 1 Soft Grip Pick – Perfect Knitting Kit Gift www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07GSFL67W/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_Z3W067Z9B93DT4R1KY27?tag=mumsnetforu03-21

I would try her on a kit if she's very keen. Or you can buy a single ball of yarn and a couple of short, straight needles (something like these ) and see how she gets on.

That said, I would think crochet would be easier at that age as you don't have to try and hold two needles whilst looping the yarn over them. a useful YouTube tutorial

I doubt she’s have the dexterity honestly.

At that age I’d introduce her to loom weaving (eg Melissa and Doug have a good kids weaving kit) or a French knitting dolly. Both are easier than real knitting.

Yep…and ditto patience. The loom looks great…I will get that I think to keep her going and give it another couple of years then try one of the starter kits.

Thanks all for suggestions.
