Cross stitch help please

Hello, just looking for advice really and possibly links for completing a cross stitch cushion kit.

I'm a beginner and have found some lovely kits, it seems, however, that neither the back material to attach front pattern to nor the cushion itself is included.

Just wondering if you have a go-to supplier for both those items? If so, could you please point me in the right direction. I'm finding it tricky to ascertain the material quality for, especially, the back of the cushion.

I would be hugely grateful for any suggestions.

Many thanks.

I don't do cushions and it hadn't even crossed my mind that the backs are not included. Cushion pads are widely available in lots of sizes, try Hobby Craft to start with.

I've used this Maries Cross Stitch before and she has a large range of cushion kits and cushion backs so maybe have a look here?

Anything sold as upholstery fabric would be fine for the back - lots of suppliers around. Sometimes you can find good offcuts on ebay which means you don't have to buy more than you want for just a cushion back. Or if you find a lighter weight fabric that you like (e.g. regular cotton) you could back it with a sturdy calico- I've found that works fine in the past

I have not done cross stitching on cushions before, but I could guess that it can depend on a producer company. Some could include the backside on the cushion the others not.

My mother in law was a prolific maker of cross-stitch cushions and she used to buy cheap remnants/ends of rolls of upholstery-weight fabric for making the cushion backings. After she died I inherited several completed cross stitch cushion panels and the bag of upholstery fabric remnants so I chose a velvety medium-weight fabric, machine-sewed the backs onto the cushions on 3-and-a-bit sides, popped a cushion pad in and hand-sewed the final seam. I hadn't realised at first that there's no zip or anything like that on the cover, the whole thing is sewed all the way round.
Cushion inners I got from Dunelm as they have a good range of sizes.

Dunelm are good for cushion pads.

I would also look for an embroidery group in your area. I went to one for a while and they were a great help and guide to me. They are also a very interesting group and had workshops on every month which you could attend. Lots of knowledge to pass on.
