Crochet hook recommendations

I taught myself to crochet earlier this year, using a cheap Luxebell set of hooks I bought from Amazon. The set is supposed to be ergonomic and has a rubber grip.

As my crocheting had improved, that set has started to chafe my hand and the rubber handles don't seem to last well.

I bought myself one knit pro zing ended metal crochet hook to try, but for some reason I can't use it....i can't crochet evenly with it.

I'm really enjoying crochet and have decided to ask DH to get me a really good new hook for Christmas. Please could you recommend a really good hook or two for me to stick on my Xmas list?

I use the Symfonie wooden stripey ones, they're smooth and comfortable. I don't like a fat handle, makes my fingers ache.

The sizing labels are right on the grip though, stupidly, so they wear off and then if you've got multiple hooks like I have their sizes are a mystery. Invest a quid in a hook sizer as well!

I like the Clover Soft Touch hooks and the Knit Pro Soft Grip hooks best.

I like the ones from Toft.

Clover Amour or Tulip Etimo are the best. It's worth trying your most used size in both as they suit different grips.

I like the clover amour hooks, they are a similar shape to the ones you've mentioned but you can feel they are better quality when you use them. And the handles haven't gone all sticky like my cheap ones.

I can't get on with flat handles like the clover soft touch at all, it depends on how you crochet.

Lots of suggestions! Thanks very much.

www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/boye-ergonomic-aluminium-crochet-handle?gclid=CjwKCAiA7dKMBhBCEiwAO_crFIm-qrIJnTJTDU0Hp2fIgFXnsdBcau-dAswHjIzWJg1p3a-8NY2fKBoCW0oQAvD_BwE I switched to these when I completely destroyed my thumb crocheting too much - just hold a standard hook.

Otherwise I like the knit-pro waves ones. I have a fair few cos I'm forever losing the buggers, replacing them (used to have a yarn store at the end of the street) and finding them again.

I love Addi Swing hooks - they do two types one with a slightly longer shank.

It's very much a personal choice, which is a problem if you can't try them first! I prefer the plain metal ones without a handle (which is useful given they're the cheapest!)

PositiveLife · 18/11/2021 12:20

I like the Clover soft touch ones but my favourite ones I bought on Etsy and have polymer clay handles. They're so comfortable but I could do with buying more sizes.

YesILikeItToo · 18/11/2021 12:24

I use bamboo hooks that are just plain like the ordinary metal hooks - they seem slippier to me. But I did break one once performing a complex puff stitch.

TheFairyCaravan · 18/11/2021 12:28

I like the Tulip pink crochet hooks, however I bought this set from eBay on a whim and they’re fast becoming a favourite.

Clover Armour 100%!

Nat6999 · 20/11/2021 02:56

I like the comfy grip ones with silicone grips.

crockydoodle · 20/11/2021 19:13

Clover Amour is my favourite
