Roman blinds for a beginner sewer

Would it be mental for a total novice to try and make some Roman blinds using one of the kits you can buy from Terry’s fabrics or similar?

My windows are a non standard size and getting made to measure ones in the fabric I like is extortionate so was thinking of doing it myself.

😬

If you can sew straight lines and follow a pattern you'll be fine. Be mindful of the fabric you choose, if it's too thick your sewing machine might nit be able to handle the seams and if you need to join two or more pieces to get the width you'll have to pattern match any bold patterns.

It's worth watching or reading a tutorial online and making sure you understand how it looks comes together from start to end before you do any cutting or start making it up.

Yes, if you take it very slowly and carefully. Watch the videos relating to the kit you buy (not random ones from YouTube, different kits work different ways) and make sure you understand how the blind is going to work when it's done. Theoretically a lined blind might be doable but if I were you I'd start with an unlined one to keep things as straightforward as possible.

They're not that difficult. Measure twice, cut once, take your time and be very precise. The video below is good (it's for a lined one though).

It's also worth investing in a good stainless steel L-shaped measure. Good luck!
