Re-homing odds and ends of yarn (part and full balls)

Just wondering if there is a good way of getting rid of yarn I bought for projects but not used up. The half finished projects I've decided to call time on will be going to the tip but I hate the idea of fully usable stuff in landfill.

However who would realistically want a selection of random balls of yarn in different colours and weights?! Is it worth listing it for free on Gumtree or similar? All ideas welcome Smile

Offer them to a preschool or maybe a brownie group.

Rollergirl1980 · 21/10/2021 13:17

Or put them in a clear bag and give to the charity shop (to be sold as job lot).

CrochetBug · 21/10/2021 13:18

Make a scrap blanket.
Send them to me.
Donate to a school/Brownies/cubs/care home.
Make newborn sized blankets for your local hospital (if they want them)

Squiz81 · 22/10/2021 08:14

Our local charity shops accept them. They are particularly popular with people who knit fiddle blankets for dementia patients.

Charity shop or eBay

Hanab · 22/10/2021 08:48

If you are in the glasgow area our women’s group would take them

SpringSparrow · 22/10/2021 08:54

Knitting groups (maybe at your library), care homes, schools, brownie groups and charity shops . You could also unravel your unfinished projects or donate them too. Someone would be happy to complete an unfinished project or unravel it and reuse the wool.

treesandweeds · 22/10/2021 09:12

Put a photo up. I weave and would like to do a recycling project of odd and ends but I dont currently have enough myself! If its suitable I'd love it!

SoupDragon · 24/10/2021 18:43

Why would you send half finished projects to the tip? They can be frogged and the yarn used.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 27/10/2021 23:23

Charity shop, local knit and natter group.

Oddments are good for making twiddle muffs, and the sort of blankets/shawls/scarves that are random colours in one row of garter stitch each, ends made into tassels and trimmed.

careerchangeperhaps · 28/10/2021 04:17

I use mine to make tiny hats for Innocent smoothie bottles for their annual charity event:

Perhaps your local 'knit and natter' type group would be interested in the same?

KevinandRainbowlina · 02/11/2021 21:26

@treesandweeds

If you are really interested in an assortment of random balls in different colours, brands, weights and fibres then I'm happy to send you a photo of it all in the daylight!

@Hanab Sadly I'm not near Glasgow otherwise would definitely send them your way.

@SoupDragon In an ideal world I would unravel and re-purpose, but lack of time, start of arthritis in fingers and hands (seems unfair at 38 but there we are) and the nature of the projects themselves mean this isn't feasible. I am trying to save and re-gift what useable yarn there is in these WIPs.
