The children are aged 8. Im no crafter but the excellent crafting standard across the school is making me stessed. Any suggestions? Im looking for something that is long lasting and the children have genuinely made themselves. It needs to be as cheap as possible because likely ill have to fork out for the resources myself.

Lollipop stick Christmas trees, the sticks can be bought really cheaply and decorate with glitter and little balls of coloured tissue paper or gems.

The one thing I’ve treasured is a peg angel for our Christmas tree. It’s now 15 years old and bought out every year.

Some nice ideas here - www.goodhousekeeping.com/holidays/christmas-ideas/g34112389/christmas-crafts-for-kids/

You could combine with an outdoors activity to collect pinecones, let 5hem dry out for a couple of days then paint them green and add sequins/embellishments and a bit of a ribbon to make a tree ornament.

Snow globes. They all bring in a jar and stick a little plastic figure to the lid. You can buy ‘snow’.

Thanks. I made these before. There isn't much for the child to really do themselves. I basically made 34 of them. They did look good though and the kids were happy. I wondered sbout lining the inside of a jar with glue, lining with glitter and turning it into a tea light holder?

Have a chat with the craft co-ordinator, or with any friendly colleagues.

Could you buy origami paper and let the children fold a simple Christmas star?
You can make a hole in it and put some rope trough it so they can hang it somewhere as a decoration.

A giant pom pom in Christmas coloured wool.

Slice of wood (cross section of a small branch) for them to paint.

An origami Christmas angel is cute too

I’ve got decs made from a salt dough (I think) cut with biscuit cutters, hole for the string, allowed to harden and painted gold or silver. We’ve had those years they’ve definitely held up better than some stuff they’ve brought home.

We had some cards with angels or elves on the front with the kids photos as the angels or elves faces (they are funny but sweet)

Book mark
Annual Christmas decoration
Sun catcher of sorts
Keyrings
A hot chocolate mug (decorated)

Pom Pom gnomes (or Santas) should be straightforward. The embroidery can be replaced with glitter glue pen I guess.

If you use the white air-dry clay you can draw patterns on with Sharpie pens. It would be a two session activity to make the decoration using Christmas shaped cutters (roll the clay to about half a cm thick- maths link there!), make a hole using a straw to thread ribbon or string. Leave to dry for a couple of days then decorate with pens.

We laughed at a cotton wool snowman man ds made once. It was a basic snowman shape on card, filled with cotton wool, ribbon scarf, black top hat but with ds head cut out of a photo and stuck on. It was hilarious and the one I really remember and kept.

Other ideas - Star on a ribbon, Pom Pom snowman, lollipop sticks made into a triangle and then wool woven across it to make trees and sequin decoration.

Depends on how long they have to make things. Is it a one afternoon thing so maybe 1-2 hours or something they can do over a couple of weeks?

Afternoon...Christmas's wreaths...card hoop, wrap green wool around (like you would be making a pompom) and they draw and colour decorations, cut out and stick
We used to make birds...cut out shape of a bird then use wrapping paper folded like a fan and poke through the middle of the body. Very quick and easy, rainbows (5-7) can do most of it unaided

Couple of week... salt dough decorations, pompom wreaths, finger puppets, garlands

What about something like this, to hang on Christmas trees? I made this with DD1 when she was six and it’s still out favourite tree decoration now she’s a teen.

I’m officially crap at arts and crafts but these button decorations were easy-peasy; you simply thread them with very fine ribbon and leave a hanging loop when you’re done. We also made snow men (brown buttons at the bottom for boots, white buttons for the actual snow man and a black button on top for the hat; ditto Father Christmas, using red, brown and black buttons).

Charity shops are a great source of old buttons or you could ask for donations from parents/carers/grandparents etc?

Oh I love the idea of making decorations from salt though and biscuit cutters. Will definitely keep that idea in mind for when DS is old enough!

If you are on Facebook look under Girlguiding Fun Stuff to make. Recent post shows snowman pegs.
