does anyone have a nice pattern for a nice lace scarf? I haven't knitted lace before and I wanted a project to try but I can't seem to find a lace scarf that I like. Does anyone have a pattern or know where to find one?

thank you.

How fancy do you want it to be, Meridian? Feather and fan is a good lace pattern to start with as it's very straightforward. Lots of people like Branching Out from Knitty. I started one and found it a bit narrow and floaty for my tastes. It woudl be worth looking through the Knitty archive though- scarves are here and there are a few lace ones.

this one looks quite nice.. its a present for my MIL who likes things nice but not to fru fru if you know what I mean? I have never done lace at all before, the branching out looks quite nice as well.. perhaps i'm getting a bit over my head (abilitly here)

Oh, how funny- I nearly linked to that one because I thought it was so nice. I love it too, and would be ideal for a non frou-frou person. The chart is very, very simple- once you've done a few repeats you'd be fine, I'm sure. The biggest help with lace (apart from a row counter) is stitch markers that you put in between the repeats- that way you can see straight away if you've made a mistake. I would say it was an ideal starter pattern for lace actually, and if you get some really nice yarn it will be beautiful.

I would also really recommend putting in lifelines. That way if you make a mistake you can just frog it to the last life line and it's easy to pick up the stitches again.
