Where to find miniature 'books' to use as tree decorations??

Just wondering if any of you talented and creative people could please advise me about where to find this sort of thing (on-line preferably)?

It's a club project and we're decorating a Christmas tree on a literary theme.

The obvious solution is try and find some little chunky notebooks and cover them in bright paper. It's just that we need at least 20 or so books on the tree and I wondered if there was another less time-consuming option out there?? I'd be v. grateful for any suggestions or ideas ...

Make them?? It's easy to make single section notebooks. Cut sheets of paper to the size of 2 pages, fold in half, sew down the spine (or staple!) and guillotine the page edges square.

Use bright card/paper as the outer sheet and you don't have to cover them.

Dolls house suppliers like these , maybe?

Cover matchboxes with paper & draw the books on the outside?

Countingthegreyhairs · 21/11/2007 19:12

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

I love the doll's house furniture idea - thanks (and will definitely be book-marking the site) but the books in this case are a little small. The book decorations need to be about 5 cm x 4 cm or perhaps a little bit bigger.

I think I'll make a proto-type with a matchbox (thanks Katymac) as that's about the right size and thickness and then decide.

If the matchbox doesn't work, perhaps the best route as you've suggested is to make them from scratch but I'd like the end result to be about 1 to 2 cms thick.

I'll ask dh to look around some shops for cheap miniature books when he's next in UK as all very expensive here in mainland Europe.

Thanks again!

Wrap it in white paper, then wrap the matchbox on 3 sides with a slightly larger, thicker piece of paper & it will look like a 'cover'

Ah I see - thanks again Katymac - will try it out at the w/e ...

There are clever little corners you can do so that the 3 visible sides look smooth (& you can draw lines to represent pages)

You can even use cloth as the cover

That's brilliant - thanks
