Roman blind - what’ve I done wrong?

Hi all
I jubilantly mounted my first ever home made Roman blind today - but it looks like this 😭
It’s as though the front material is flipping off the liner. The liner is beautifully folded behind.

What have I done wrong people?

All help / ideas on how to fix appreciated!!!
(I have another wider one waiting to be finished and that’s going to be even worse I think!?!!
Pls help

This thread gives me a warm fuzzy feeling. Also, I took my sewing machine out of the garage (been there 8 years cough) yesterday so it's well timed!

@Lisyloo725

Thank you!!! You creative lot are so helpful and kind!!! I’ll come back soon! 🤗
I'm quite impressed how well you have done for a first go.

The first Roman blind I did still doesn't quite hang right (I've done more since) and is where I learnt all about stab stitching. It was throwing yourself in at the deep end to do proper rod pockets rather than just using the tape on your first go but the outcome is it looks much professional.

It looks lovely OP. Well done for such a good job. Can I borrow some of the collective wisdom? I have a Roman blind that is quite wide, it had four strings running down the length at the back. One of them came loose, I asked my Dad to have a look and he pulled the loose string out Angry

So now the blind doesn’t hang straight. Would it be possible to reinstate some string?

You can restring the blind.
Easier if you drop the blind down, then get behind it

CausingChaos2 · 10/05/2021 17:46

Thank you Bruce I had assumed it was irreparable. I’ll have to get some string and give it a go.

I assume by "string" you mean proper blind cord. Post a pic of the top bit rear of blind that it's hung from for further tips
CausingChaos2 · 12/05/2021 17:01

Afraid I did mean string Blush will pop in to Dunelm for some proper cord. Thank you for the guidance Bruce - clueless novice here.

How on earth has there been a comment deleted on a thread about Roman blinds?!?! What could someone possibly say that was worthy of deletion on a craft thread? Confused

Hi again ladies - final disaster with this blind I’m sure....
I did 30 stab stitches in the blind using normal cotton that matched the front of the blind.
All but two had miraculously disappeared!!

To do the stab stitch, I went in from the lining side, through the front material a teeny bit (3mm ish) and then back through to the back.
I then used the two loose ends and tied a double knot and cut with little tails.

What am I doing wrong?
Why have they all broken?
What type of cotton should I be using? I used Gutterman but not extra strength just normal.

Thanks in advance
L

The stab stitches have to hold the layers together so the blind moves as one piece.
I do my "stab" stitches using a machine, small zig zag and 0 length. They are not going anywhere!

You need to go thru several times over the same spot. Rather than trying to take a single thread of fabric with a single stitch. If you get a good thread match they shouldn't be visible

Lisyloo725 · 21/05/2021 09:39

Thanks @BruceAndNosh - just one zigzag - forward then backwards then again?

Would you do them under the rod pocket (that’s where my disappearing stab stitches were/are)?
And about six of them across a 1.7m wide blind?
Thank you

I do mine just under rod pocket in line with the rings as that's where everything is getting pulled.

Lisyloo725 · 23/05/2021 09:51

Thanks @BruceAndNosh I’ll give it a go !!
