Sirdar Crochet Kit.. beginner friendly?

Hello

I've seen a kit for a blanket on the sirdar website which I think is really pretty and my grand daughter would love. Problem is I can't crochet!!

I'm a very proficient knitter and have wanted to learn crochet for a while. Is this an unreasonable place to start? It looks like it would teach me lots of stitches if not.

Your advice would be really welcome.

Have you got a link? Crochet and knitting are quite different though there’s some similarities in terms of tension etc. I can’t knit well at all but am good at crochet. YouTube is your friend for stitches - maybe have a go and see how you pick it up, then try the blanket? The Seaside Stash Buster blanket is excellent for trying and learning new crochet stitches and very forgiving of mistakes.

It looks pretty beginner friendly, says there will be videos, tells you all the wool you need. I would watch a few YouTube videos and practice the basic stitches before starting though

I was already a fairly experienced knitter and learned to crochet a while back. I started with a few granny squares and then did a blanket pretty similar to the one you linked. Imo that kind of sampler-style blanket is great for a beginner, because you learn different stitches as you go along.

I was so pleased with mine that I've since done another even bigger one. Although crochet is pretty different from knitting, the fact that you're used to manipulating yarn and needles, and controlling tension, will still make it easier than for a non-knitter imo. If you want more advice, do come and hang out on the Knit, Crochet and Natter threads. My second blanket was a Crochet Along which we did together on the thread!

I would think that would be easy enough. If you master the basic stitches (double and treble) and are confident with starting off with the foundation chain (the hardest bit I always think but lots of good videos on how to make that easier) then it should all be good.

Thank you all

I've ordered it! Have found out my late mums hooks (and I think some of my grandmas so ancient) and had a lovely nostalgic morning sorting through them and finding odds of wool to practise on.

Excited Smile

Great! I really love crocheting and the results can be so pretty.
