Quiet book - is it DIYable???

Each time when I saw those online pretty pictures of quiet books, I was fascinated and believed I just need a bit patience to recreate something similar with my own hands. (Make it clear, I'm absolutely a no-crafty person. No artistic gene at all. But I can sew a bit.)

So I bought a bunch of felt sheets, pretty craft buttons, zips and some other little things with an intention to give it a go. Just when I sat in front of the laptop with sewing kits and the felt sheets next to me, I felt a bit overwhelmed. By watching some online tutorials and blogs, I actually found myself paralysed by the complexity of making each page. I suppose to make the page work is not rocket science. However, if I want the pages look decent and presentable, I found I may just not have the talent/skill.

Has anyone made quiet book for your little ones? Are you usually good at craft/sewing already?

Basic things like: How can I make the edges of those felt patterns neat without fluffy bits all over the place? Why do the felt cuts I have look a lot thinner than those on the video/online pictures?

I made an activity mat for my godson last year and it worked really well but was made in quilting cotton! Some of the squares, which work on the same principle as pages were a little tricky and I had to change my plan on a couple of them as I just couldn't achieve the effect I wanted.

You absolutely can do this.
Have you seen another one 'in the flesh'?

Don't make all the pages felt: things pull out of felt more easily so mix up the fabrics for each side of each page for stability. This also has the advantage that the back of each page is invisible so you can concentrate on making the front fun and the whole thing as safe and robust as possible, then sew the pages back to back to hide the knots!
Have you considered double sided iron on stiffener for some of your movable shapes? It's great for making stiffer fabric die cuts for crafting, and means you won't need to stuff and sew everything.

Let us know how it turns out. Such a lovely idea!
