Where do you sew?

My mum did a lot of sewing when I was younger, and she still does. In our first house she had a dedicated sewing “corner” in the living room for her machine etc. In her current house she started with a sewing “nook” at the top of the stairs, with a work bench amd loads of shelves etc. And now my sister and I have left gone she has taken over most of the top floor of the house, bought a big fold out table for cutting etc.

I have a sewing machine, lots of plastic boxes in cupboards and a small two bed flat shared with DH and our two boys. There is nowhere to leave a machine out, never mind anything else. The only big table is our dining table - and that’s used daily for eating, homework, household admin etc.

Are any of you managing to work as “pop up” sewers? Tidying it all away each day? Is there any point in me trying to get into sewing in these circumstances? I wanted to try some simple dress making (don’t fit shop sizes well at all).

When our kids were small our living space seemed overrun with school stuff, meal space & general day to day mess so I set up a wee table in the corner of our bedroom.

It's hard though to sew/craft for a bit in communal living spaces & then have to pack it all away because the kids are back home from school etc - do you have a corner or a cupboard you can "take as yours" ?
A friend converted a built in wardrobe with some extra shelving & has her machine set up on that.

Goodluck.
