Something like the wool used in this sweater?

It's not wool LL it's roving that you spin or felt from (look closely and there's no twist) so get thee to Ebay>crafts>other crafts>spinning, try the shops, they might sell you a goodly amount -it comes in 25kg 'bumps'
Expensive-but not as expensive as giles I expect

Thank you. I have no idea what that means! Well, I understand spinning and felting (I think) but what is "roving", please?

but would you really want one??? You could get some big wool and knit a wearable fascimile?

jamila169 · 29/10/2007 23:36

Roving is the stuff wool eventually emerges from -it's the fleece, dyed and combed out into a strip about 6 inches wide, all the fibres are lined up so if you want it thinner then you pull gently until its as thick as you want it
Here's where giles deacon got his www.winghamwoolwork.co.uk/dyed_wools.htm

BTW wingham are ace with enquiries, if you asked nicely, they'd probably tell you how much you'd need

Ah, see I looked at the website before and it was just gibberish to me! But now I am educated . Thank you!

BTW LL he's talking pants about scaffolding poles - You'd need a 30 -35 mm curtain pole chopped in half and sharpened (for added refinement screw a wooden toy wheel to the other end) Looking at the stitch count, i reckon a 3-4 yo size chunky cardigan would put you on the right lines for the number of stitches.
Florence says why would you? I say why not if you like it and can carry it off - it'd cost a fifth of what the real thing costs (or less if you get a good discount )

I just think it would be fun to try!

oh it's a sweater is it? i thought it was an anaconda.

TheChickenLady · 30/10/2007 10:25

It'll keep you warm in winter.

warthog · 30/10/2007 10:28

actually, i like the look of it. i'd just have problems picking up my dd as it doesn't seem to have arms... and all her food would end up lodged in the coils.

but ll, i'd love to see how it turns out. definitely worth trying.

GreatBigHairyMonsterlapin · 30/10/2007 10:34

I don't want that actual sweater/scarf/giant anaconda (although I LOVE the shoes!), I just want to knit a sweater with enormous wool. I think it would be cool!

Or warm. You know what I mean!

A bit more like a sweater
