Accountability thread I will finish some projects this year

toomanyhobbies · 27/12/2020 06:11

So I follow other accountability threads in housekeeping and thought I would start my own for my crochet projects (might slip some others in there tooSmile)

So My aim for 2021 is to finish 21 projects! And this hopefully this thread will help keep me in track wools anyone else like to join me?

My projects I can think of at the moment are
Aria blanket (Christmas present just stared it as I couldn’t resist) 4 squares done 140 left to go
Dune blanket
Mario blanket
Knitted blanket
Poppy wreath for remembrance day for my Anut.
Christmas gnomes (that counts as 4)
Fish jars
Octopus

I know I’ve got a few more but that will do for now, for the time being I’m enjoying the new blanket so let’s see how far I get with that.

Why is starting a project easier than finishing one!!

lazylinguist · 27/12/2020 08:17

I like the idea of having a target number of projects to complete in a year! Pop over to the Knit, Crochet and Natter thread of you haven't already- lots of us with projects on the go over there!

BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow · 27/12/2020 08:50

I’d like to join in, I’ve got a major crochet project currently in the roof-space that needs finished but I’ve run out of enthusiasm for it atm.

I have a sewing project that I started instead and a couple of other ideas percolating.

It’s always a toss up as to whether I’ll be super focussed on one thing until its done or doing several things at once so I can bounce between them without getting bored/frustrated of the individual projects.

The last few years have been challenging & sapped my energy to do anything but I am determined to rebuild that up so an accountability thread sounds great.

Hope you don’t mind if I need to go a bit slower/less projects!

Main goals off the top of my head:

Finish franken-skirt & at least 4 repairs on other clothes that need small stuff done.

Practice with clay to work out how I can repair small statue I found after moving house - and hopefully fix that.

Collect & press flowers/leaves as the year goes through so I have more of a variety - possibly including making my own press?

Make a new vision board. I had one when I had been ill & lost weight (it was 90% food pictures 😂) and it did help keep me reminded/focussed so I’d like to make a new one for the 2020’s.

Part garden, part craft - prep garden for planting & start a willow fence (to shape as it grows) and make climbing frames for my sprawling cherry tomato planta before needed so I’m not pissing about when the toms are on the vine (I’ve only started gardening so learning as I go!)

Then next autumn/winter get the crochet out again & finish it, and maybe do something new with my pressed flowers or beach finds from the spring/summer.

I’ve lurked a bit on the Knit, Crochet, Natter but I always feel a bit jack of all trades & master of none, half the time I’m not sure what I’m doing 😂 but I enjoy trying and experimenting!

@BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow welcome your projects sound fantastic and everyone is welcome. I don’t think I will get anywhere near 21 projects finished but it’s nice to dream Grin

I have quiet a few different things on the go I too would like to get the garden sorted so perhaps when we can have people over in the summer (here hoping) its ready and not a mad dash the week before.

I also have some scrap books I would like to start finish.

I always find starting a new project easier than finishing. It’s all new and exciting.

Thank you for the welcome @toomanyhobbies I agree for sure on it being easier starting projects!

Maybe that’s also why its nice being able to have a few things on the go, by the time we circulate back round to the first one again it feels ‘new’!

I am interested in hearing more about your scrap books, and garden too.

I absolutely need an accountability thread! My key ones for this year are:
Crochet flamingo. All done apart from complicated feather tail
Knitted blanket. Very repetitive so I get bored. Gorgeous yarn though so need to finish.
I am also doing the clouds factory cross stitch SAL this year and also The Steady Thread's free botanical blackwork SAL. Hopefully the fact that they are released bit by bit will keep me interested!

Grin Well I'm a jack of only 2 trades (knitting and crochet) and definitely a master of neither!

BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow · 27/12/2020 16:51

Well maybe not all trades Grin lazylinguist

I enjoy the magpie aspect of craft, picking up interesting bits and pieces that catch my eye - gorgeous yarn like you mentioned, or unusual buttons, weathered twigs, acorn tops, all have me stopping and cocking my head and thinking, “Oh, do you know what you could do...”

Now I have nothing but time and all this collection of stuff I want to follow through!

It also feels a lot more fun when other people are being creative and sharing their tips, successes, challenges sources of gorgeous yarn Wink

lazylinguist · 27/12/2020 17:20

You sound a lot more creative than me, Barefoot! I don't have ideas, I just find pattern, buy yarn, follow instructions. Grin I think that's why I love knitting and crochet- it's a creative thing to do, but doesn't necessarily require any actual innate creative talent!

BarefootInTheMoonlitSnow · 27/12/2020 19:07

I love my friend’s crochet because she can follow a pattern and do loads of interesting designs 😁 mine are just simple stitches & I gave up knitting when I just could not work out how to turn a heel.

Reading patterns is a skill in itself - they are like a whole other language, I never got to grips with them so I admire people like you and my friend who have that skill.

lazylinguist · 27/12/2020 19:12

I gave up knitting when I just could not work out how to turn a heel.

I can definitely sympathise with that. Socks were my nemesis until I bought a book called 'Getting Started Knitting Socks' by Ann Budd, after which all became clear!

I remember looking at proper patterns in utter bafflement as a beginner knitter, and not believing I'd ever be able to understand them!

toomanyhobbies · 28/12/2020 23:07

So some more projects to add to my list
Some crochet fairy lights my friend has hinted at for next Christmas.
I had started a pocket hug for my mum from Ds as she has to isolate again. But I’m enjoying the blanket too much and it’s quicker so I’m seeing results faster.

I’ve managed 9 squares out the 144! So not that fast.

I used to knit but find crocheting much quicker and For making toys there seems to be less sewing together than with knitted ones.

I need to finish two huge crochet blankets for friends. I need to start one for another friend, finish one for me, redo a summer one and make one for DS so that's 6 big projects!
