Copic Pens

My daughter has asked for Copic pens for Christmas. She's really into Manga type drawing and wants some more professional brush pens. I know these are expensive (but about the only thing she has asked for!). Has anyone used them or can let me know the best place to buy them? Thank you!

I used to do fashion and I did use them for colouring in the garments. They are indeed expensive but most probably she will have them for a very long time if used properly. Also they are beautiful to draw with on paper. I think it's worth the investment if that's all she asked for.

They are wonderful pens, both the Copic Ciao and Copic Sketch, but super expensive. My daughter has a good collection (she is an illustrator) and they are refillable. I can’t remember where I bought her first sets as it was years ago!

If you want a good starter alcohol pen set, google Ohuhu markers, I’ve seen some really good reviews over the years. If she gets on well with them then graduate to Copics.

You will need good alcohol compatible paper to use them or they’ll bleed through (both paper and line art).

Just to add - my daughter’s primary illustrative style is manga, she’s very lucky to be a successful artist! She’s now primarily a digital artist (I think I spent well over £750 on her digital tablet for her 21st birthday!!) but still goes back to sketching & using her Copics. I can’t remember a day (even when critically ill in hospital) when she hasn’t been sketching something. Even when waiting for test results after another emergency admission, she was sketching a little picture to the girl in the next bed with appendicitis to make her feel better. I wish your daughter the best of luck & every success.

What lovely replies, thank you! She's coming up to 11 but spends hours sketching and drawing. She's also mentioned Ohuhu as well so I might start off on those and then graduate to the Copic when she is a bit older.
