Crochet arm pain....hook recommends/advice please!!

I learnt to crochet early September and have loved it, however I did a 3 hour ‘crochet binge’ mid September and woke up the next day hardly able to move my arm/wrist. I have rested, iced and used ibuprofen gel and it is finally settling. I have done a couple of 10/20 min sessions to try a different positions and hook sizes and arm has felt ok but I’m missing it. I’ve researched ergonomically friendly hooks (I have basic metal ones)....would these help? I’ve also tried with pillow propping up arm, also helpful.

Any recommends greatly received, for both hooks and injury prevention going forward.

I use the Addi ergonomic hooks. They help a lot. I can't use ordinary hooks anymore.

There’s stretches you can do before/after/during that will help.

I used to get pains when I used the skinny ones but now I use Clover Soft Touch hooks, they aren’t soft but they are my favourite.

For future reference when you crochet alway make sure your hands are lower than your elbows as this reduces muscle fatigue.

I have been crocheting since the 70s and have never had any pains or fatigue as my grandmother and my mother taught me about resisting the urge to bring my hands near to my face.

Addi Swing hooks really make a difference for me.

I also try and make sure my hands and arms are 'loose' when I am crocheting as my natural inclination is to tense up.

make sure your hands are lower than your elbows

How?

I just tried and I can't do this
SoupDragon · 26/12/2020 21:16

Glad it's not just me!

Pony or Knit Pro for me, I can't use the Addi Swing hook at all though, uncomfy and the hook part is too short.

Thank you all for comments. I haven’t tried my new hooks as yet, my arm is still too sore to risk but I’m hoping next week will be my trial run. I shall keep it short though and see how I get on.

I use clover soft touch and honestly they saved me. I had arm and hand pain and bumps on my hands with the straight metal ones
