Hi,
Need help and inspiration fast please! My trio, 2 boys and a girl, 9yrs old have to go to a local museum dressed in Victorian costume and I can`t sew for toffee! Any ideas greatly appreciated please!

Boys - trousers rolled up to knees with knee length socks and black shoes; white shirts, blackwaistcoats and cloth caps (are we talking poor children? I do hope so - ruffles and velvet will be harder!). Girl's costume - long skirt, white blouse, shawl and baggy elasticated cap (looks like shower cap) or bonnet.

?????

you're not in york are you?

long trousers and long sleeved shirt, poss collarless. button-up waistcoats, for DSs and flat caps; long skirt, long sleeves and full apron for DD - mob cap if poss, you might get away with two plaits and no cap. you could cut the apron out of an old sheet and seal the edges with iron-on hem?

when we went when I was at school one poor boy went in shorts because he didn't know about costume and the "victorian" teacher was quite nasty.

good luck, hope that helps.

No not in York, would love to be, I`m south coast! Thanks for the ideas, better hunt around the charity shops! Could ask my mum to run up a white pinny out of an old sheet!

There are always plenty of cheap costumes on Ebay.
