Gifting projects that take up a fair yardage

Next year we are planning on some extensive house renovations and I'm cutting down on stuff in the house. I have a stash of fabric I've accumulated and would like to use it up rather than recycle. It's predominantly upholstery type fabric, cotton and some synthetic.

I stopped dressmaking when DD came along as I just don't have the time to do it well. Can you guys come up with some gift ideas that are simple and take up a lot of fabric?

So far my ideas are:

  • Table runner and napkins for DM
  • Personalised embroidered cushions for DNieces
  • Beeswax wraps for anyone everyone

@VanillaSpiceCandle I do encourage you to have a go. I was getting a bit tense doing it and had to remind myself the worst case was a bit of unpicking and that it was meant to be enjoyable 🤦‍♀️ it was in the end 🙌

I’m making these tablet pillows this year for all hard-to-buy for people. Very useful and can be made in various sizes. They take literally 10 minutes to make and with a bit more care/attention (like adding a handle/pocket or personalising them) can look very good too:

@CorpusCallosum that’s true. I wanted to learn for fun and to relax, ironically. So I should just chill out and just try it. Hopefully my local sewing shop will open again soon so I can stock up.

I’m making mitred napkins and pairing them with these Alessi stainless steel rings as token presents for adults. There are lots of cute designs and your choice of fabric also shows some thought went into it.
We started using cloth napkins during lockdown when we were all WFH and I realized how many paper ones we were going through.

I learned a new trick ] here for napkins and whipped up a tablecloth in 20 minutes.

I have made loads of peg conical pods, they are very easy to make, you can look on Etsy to see what I mean. They are something different and they have lots of uses!

Tote bags in the upholstery weight please. Lots and lots.
