🧸 Memory teddy bear pattern for beginner - Would like to make one out of a jumper, can I do it?!

I would like to make a memory teddy bear out of a jumper which belonged to my Dad. I have seen some lovely ones online but they are quite expensive and not quite the style I was looking for.
Do you think it would be realistic for a beginner like me to make one by following a pattern?
I think I just need to find a suitable pattern but I’m not sure if I will have difficulties sewing this type of material by hand? I was thinking of adding some contrasting fabric too but I’m not sure if this is a bit too ambitious!

Any advice and ideas would be appreciated!

Thank you

If it's a hand-wash only wool jumper then it will be easiest to handle. It's best to experiment with a bit of sleeve but if you put it in a normal wash then it should felt and become more stable.

Of it doesn't felt, then it will be harder to cut without it unravelling but you might get away with using some lightweight iron on interfacing to stabilise it.

There's a simplicity pattern for a memory bear and if you Google memory bear pattern, you get the link to a 17 minute video that takes you through all the steps for that pattern which, even if you use a different pattern, should help you decide whether you can manage it or not.

Thank you @PickAChew, I will look at this website. I’m thinking I might need to start on a more basic design on some spare fabric first to get some experience and then move onto the actual teddy!
