Crochet fastening off

Hi, many years ago I crocheted some granny squares for something, but hadn't done any crocheting for a long time until now. Everything I'm reading about fastening off says to use a darning needle to thread the ends through, but I don't remember using a needle last time, so is there a simpler way to fasten off, just by knotting or something, even if it doesn't look quite as neat? I feel like I will end up doing more "sewing" than crocheting otherwise, which doesn't appeal (lazy, I know!)
Many thanks

Just pull the thread through the last loop, pull tight and snip. Then crochet over the ends

I just cut the yarn and pull it tight through the last stitch loop, sort of knotting it. I always use a needle to weave in the loose ends securely though - it just looks neater and it's less likely to unravel.
