Novice knitter help please

Hi, can anyone help me with this pattern please?

It states I should finish on a ws before shape raglan. It then says c/o on next row (which would be a rs) and then dec on next row which should be a rs Confused

I’m relatively new to knitting so not sure how to rectify. My mil (my teacher 😊) would say just do what you think but if I finish on a rs before raglan shaping so that I’m starting my c/o row on a ws then my c/o is at the end as this is for the left front of cardigan.

Can anyone tell me what to do? I’ve tried searching the pattern number online to see if anyone had made corrections but nothing there.

Can you circle the bit you’re talking about on the pattern?

I’ve had another look.

I think they may have missed a row out. Normally you do the same on both sides when you make a raglan as it is usually symmetrical.

So you should cast off the 2 stitches as directed, and then cast off another 2 at the start of the next row. ( this is the row that is missing)That would make the rest of the instructions right. Unless you are doing an asymmetrical raglan?🤪

Patten writer has tied the self in knots trying to explain. It needs you to cast off those stitches, which will be the under arm, then decrease every row. Looks like it drops to every other row at the bottom of the column.

A hint: do yiur decreases a stitch or two from the end, then you have a nice clean edge for sewing together and the decreases look quite pretty.

I'm assuming it's a cardi front, emoji as there is no mirrored cast off.

TheEmojiFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 13/10/2020 09:04

Yeah agree with above. Unless you are making a sleeve which is what l was banging on about.

Hi, thanks for replying 😊

I’m working on the left front section of the cardigan so I’m only casting off at the arm edge and not the neck. That means I need to c/o on a rs which is fine and as per pattern but the next row then says dec and in brackets it says (a rs row) but it can’t be because the previous row is a right side.

Further down it says after the dec rows I should end on a right side but that doesn’t make sense with the stitch count. It’s probably very simple for a regular knitter but it has me tied up in knots Grin

Just seeing your post Pick. Yes that’s what I’m knitting.

I just adapt it accordingly in situations like this.

Just keep decreasing on the right side edge. Decreases are usually on the right side. So just knit another row after 2 stitch cast off. This should be a ws.

Then start decreases on right side. One row isn’t going to make much difference.

That’s what I wondered. I’ve only knit a few cardigans and wasn’t sure if an extra row would make seaming weird or overall crooked. This is my first cable attempt pattern too so I really want to get it right.

I’ll do the extra row. Thank you both for the help Smile

I’m kind of impressed at you wanting to get it right!!!

I ignore instructions sometimes if l think they are wrong, often to my peril!

Grin thanks, I just don’t have the confidence yet to throw caution to the wind. My Mil regularly finds errors in patterns and she just wings it because she knows where it’s going but I’m a line by line (and in this first cable attempt, a stitch by stitch!) pattern reader Grin
