Quilters: what do you do with your scraps?

Exactly that really - I have various bits and pieces of quilting cotton let over from projects and I have no idea what to do with them.
Not big pieces - anything from 10cm to half metres - but after me, DH, and mum all went in the Co Op on Saturday in masks made from the same distinctive fabric, I really need ideas for something other than masks to use up my bits and pieces...

I like doing visible mending and use bits for that.

Also make things like lavender bags and bunting for presents.

And the child that likes seeing uses small bits for sewn collages.

Seeing = sewing Grin

Liking bunting, thank you.
I've just run up a couple of hair scrunchies.... as one does....

I'm suddenly thinking I might make some bunting from scraps pieced together, that might be pretty.

I also made some good coasters for the garden from thicker scraps.

What you call scraps are what my quilts are made from! Could you do a more scrappy style of quilt to use up bits?

Cattermole · 13/10/2020 09:34

I could, @TheCountessofFitzdotterel - the only thing is I'm running out of space for full-sized quilts!
DH thinks I should make a house-cosy...like a teacosy but house sized.....or re-upholster the inside of the caravan in patchwork.
I'm not SURE he's entirely serious but you can never tell with him.

Cushions for the caravan?

diplodocusinermine · 13/10/2020 09:38

Actually if you look on pinterest there are some lovely pics of caravans with vintage style interiors including bunting! I wanted to 'vintagise' our van. DH looked like this Hmm.....

Loads of ideas

I made a load of miniature victorian style christmas stockings in a range of colours and embellished them with scraps of lace etc. SOld a lot on ebay and locally. Bigger scraps could make full size stockings, christmas decorattions etc.

Perhaps make patchwork bottle bags - pattern for a basic one here but it would be nice with half in scrap patchwork and half in co-ordinating plain fabric.

I’ve been making misterdomestic.com/2018/11/06/scandinavian-folded-fabric-star-ornament-w-video-tutorial/these Scandinavian woven stars out of my scraps to use as Christmas decorations (probably hanging on some bit of stripped twiggy shit as I chucked my sad fake tree before moving.
Other ideas are:
Scrunchies and hair bands
Tissue holders
Pin cushions
Table napkins
Placemats.
Matching white pillowcases with just a cuff made of the quilt fabric.
Rag rugs.
Face masks.

Scrappy projects.
Pat Sloan (YouTube and blog) makes great free patterns for scraps, like a diagonal rainbow of HST, her Oh My Stars using 5 inch squares or a checkerboard of 2.5 inch squares that she uses as starters and enders while sewing other things.

Sorry, I messed up the link!
