Has anyone done this? How much experience do you need to complete it?
It looks absolutely gorgeous but I don’t know if I’d be up to it.

@Bigfatspiders Just had a look at that - absolutely beautiful.

Not too pricey at £29,99

What have you made before?

Twilightstarbright · 14/08/2020 07:16

I've made it. I'd say a confident beginner could do it, just don't stress if you make a mistake and need to redo it. Stitch markers help.

The instructions are very good and theres some big Facebook crochet groups where people will help you as it's a popular pattern. Think there's even a group for this pattern.

I was taught to crochet by the designer.

Dmtush · 14/08/2020 07:19

There are two tricky bits, the treble crosses and actually piecing it together. It’s very doable for a beginner.

If you’re looking for something beautiful with hand holding levels of ease I suggest Sophie’s universe. There are step by step videos and wordy descriptions to help.

woodhill · 14/08/2020 07:19

Doing it now. Very clear pattern

MrsPatrickDempsey · 14/08/2020 07:22

Where did you all get it from? It looks gorgeous.

woodhill · 14/08/2020 07:24

From the knit and stitch show a while back.

It's like doing a jigsaw puzzle.

Bigfatspiders · 14/08/2020 07:54

Hmmm. Thanks all. I’ve done only really simple stuff before- granny squares blanket and ripple baby blanket etc. It would be a big step up. I might look at Sophie’s universe and do something a bit more complex first.

I’d always recommend the Sophie pattern for beginners as you learn so much! By the end of part 4 you’ve learned everything you’ll need to know and the videos are so good. After that anything else is incredibly accessible. (Except clothing. Clothing terrifies me)

Bigfatspiders · 14/08/2020 10:05

Is the Sophie’s universe pattern sold as a kit? Can anyone post a link? I found one but it was £150.

Here’s the pure cotton one at £33 www.woolwarehouse.co.uk/lookatwhatimade/sophie-s-universe-main-pack-in-scheepjes-cotton-8-18-x-50g

Dmtush · 14/08/2020 10:08

If you look on that site you’ll see other packs, there’s an acrylic version at £29 but I don’t like plastic yarn, it’s too squeaky.

daytripper28 · 14/08/2020 13:50

@Dmtush - cheers for info.

Can't wait to start this project, and have deffo decided on cotton 8 and 3mm hook to do the Sophie's Universe. Already have the book.

Bigfatspiders · 14/08/2020 14:15

Ah great. I’ll try the cotton one. Amazing. Thank you!

I'd say it's great for a confident beginner, clear instructions with good photos. If you want to try something similar bit low commitment, I'd recommend doing some of these flowers theloopystitch.com/free-patterns/365-days-of-crochet-flowers/

MaMaLa321 · 20/08/2020 14:07

I'm just finishing it (doing the edging).
I'd agree that confident beginner is the right level.
I've loved doing it, and I love the finished product - what I would really like is if there was another colourway.
I agree that the acrylic yard is squeeky, especially in hot weather. But then, it has the advantage of being cheap and light.
I am looking forward with interest the the Aria blanket kit that is coming out next month on the Attic24 website. From glimpses, it looks really attractive.

salty78 · 25/08/2020 17:08

I've just finished it too and loved it - I was a beginner. My first two octagons were like a try-out and a bit messy so I re-did them at the end. After those 2 I was away.

There are other colour ways here www.marymaxim.com/persian-tiles-throw.html

TolstoyAteMyHamster · 27/08/2020 21:37

Excited to start this. I’m finishing the Coastal Crochet seaside stash buster blanket which has been great for my confidence but now I’m ready for something different. I don’t know what I am going to do with all these blankets but I am really enjoying making them!

DorothyHarris · 28/08/2020 06:53

I've just ordered this kit from the woolwarehouse after doing the attic24 moorland blanket which I enjoyed but found repetitive especially towards the end 🤣. Cant wait to get started on it 😍

MaMaLa321 · 25/09/2020 08:52

I thought you might like to see what I did with all that leftover yarn.

Eastern jewels crotchet kit?
TolstoyAteMyHamster · 26/09/2020 07:08

Love that, MaMa. I am going to do something similar with all the leftover yarn when I’m done with the Eastern Jewels blanket as I’ve got lots from other ones I’ve done and that will be super quick to make.

Glitterandmud · 03/10/2020 22:54

I hadn't heard of loopy stitches before, just spent a happy afternoon crocheting some of her patterns, thanks Catapultme!

I have been getting bored doing various animaguri for my dcs and DNs, their requests are endless and now expanded to dolly clothes which have just made me lose the will to pick up my hook / needles (loved making baby clothes but the doll stuff is so fiddly).

Just asked for the eastern jewels kit for my Chriatmas! Thanks for the thread OP!
