I wondered if anybody could help me - I wanted to get some artificial flower arrangements made for Craig, which I can put over the lake where he was found and also the lake where we scattered his ashes . Becasue I have the dc's, it is not very easy to go to the lakes and look after the real flowers as often as they would need looking after. I have asked a seller on Ebay who has quoted me for 2x baby pink arrangemens (from dd) 2x baby blue arrangements (from ds) and 2x 12" Deep red roses and Carnations with white flowers (our wedding colours) from me. She has quoted £75 - Would anybody be able to do these a bit cheaper for me or is that a reasonable price? Also, does anybody know where you can get the words that florists put on the flowers? A couple of the wreaths at the funersal had Craig on them in silver lettering and I would like to put that on my arrangements but I don't know where to start to look (have had a try on Ebay) I would also like Daddy wording as well I know it's a long shot but I thought somebody here may know. Thanks

I would think that price is fairly normal for the number of arrangements you are having.

Not really sure what you mean by the words florists out on flowers - do you mean when they make a word out of flowers?

Do you have a flower shop nearby that you could go and have a chat with someone about it? I've always found them very helpful

The words were on some of Craigs flowers for the funeral They are small silver lettering, not actually words in the flowers IYSWIM

Hi,
My mum does flower arranging and says £75 is a reasonable price for all those arrangements - have you tried a local garden centre though? I know by what she does (and I have done some also) it is not too hard to do, you can buy the oasis (?) in any shape from garden centres and make them up yourself, and also buy what I think you mean - ribbon with silver letters sort of studded in? It may come to more than £75 doing it that way though, I think artificial flowers are quite expensive. I am not sure where you live, but there is a great place in Surrey called Longacres that does a range of flower arranging items. I really wish I could help more and offer to do them for you, but I really don't think I would be very good at it. If you haven't found anyone by the time my mum comes back from holiday I will have a word with her. {{hugs}} xxx

Hi, Mummy2, I've been thinking of you.

I agree that £75 sounds reasonable when you consider costs of materials plus the time for arranging. If you google 'floristry supplies' you might find a company that supplies the words you are after.

The artificial flower arrangements sound beautiful, but one thing to bear in mind is that they will eventually deteriorate, particularly with winter just around the corner. I appreciate that you want to remeber Craig in the way you wish, but I was wondering if it might be possible to plant a tree by the lake. You would need the permission of the landowner, but then you would have something you and the dcs could visit for years to come. You could plant a flowering cherry, which has pretty pink or while flowers, or a maple, which will go deep red in the autumn.

I hope that you manage to find just whatever you need. Thinking of you .

Thanks everyone - well I have ordered them, the seller agreed to do them all for £70 including recorded delivery postage, so I am pleased about that. All I need now is to find the lettering or wording ... It is not on a ribbon or anything. I will try to find an example of it but he had a "Craig" on his flowers at the funeral and a "son", they were both from different florists, so they must be available to buy, I just want 2 Craigs or Husbands and 4 Daddys

I know you can get them dont in flower market in vauxhall I know the ones you mean

startouchedtrinity · 28/09/2007 20:09

Could you ask the people who sent the flowers which florist they used and then ring them?

brimfull · 28/09/2007 20:17

Any florist shop that does funeral flowers will beable to help you with the lettering.

Usually they put letters onto ribbon but I'm not sure how long that would last. They also use silver letters similar to what would be used on a birthday cake.
