Finishing off seams without an overlocker

This summer I am going to make some clothes - nothing fancy a jersey knit dress and some cotton trousers. I have just brought a double needle to finish the hems off nicely and planning on to finish all the raw seams.

What is your preferred method of fishing raw edges without an overlocker?

Before I had an overlocker I used to zigzag stitch the raw seam edges to finish them (on woven fabrics) jersey/stretch fabrics I didn't dare to tackle until I had the overlocker! But I have since done zigzag stitch hems on jersey, with a walking foot, so that may be ok for raw edge neatening too

Hong Kong Finish
Bound seams

I have an overlocker but struggle with hems on the sewing machine. I bought a twin needle but can't seem to get it right.
Someone said put tissue underneath which helped but then the tissue wouldn't come off so I have white bits stuck in the hem!
Help!!

You won't need to worry about jersey fabric unraveling too much. For the trousers, I'd go with flat fell on the inseam - closetcasepatterns.com/ginger-sewalong-pt-4-seam-finishes-for-jeans/ - and zigzag on the rest.

You might also have an overlocking stitch on your sewing machine, in which case wind an extra bobbin as they go through thread like anything.

Oh and I've not had much luck with twin needle on a thin jersey, but turning the foot pressure way down and putting a strip of interfacing in the hem helps.

Definitely french seams, they're much more comfortable on the skin too.

I use a zigzag stitch with an overlocking foot. I used to have trouble getting the zig zag in the right place till I discovered the foot.

I bought an overlocking foot earlier in the summer. It's a game changer.
I don't finish internal seams on jersey because they don't fray, but on wovens I use a normal zig zag with the overlocking foot and it gives a great finish.

On (jersey) hems, I zig zag the raw edge with the overlocking foot and then hem with a twin needle.
