What foot stitch do I need to professionally take up curtains

I've taken up some of our curtains but the running stitch goes right through. Is there a way to get the professional finish, it's like a stitch every so often, same as would be used for trousers hems. I only have a basic sewing machine from John Lewis, what foot and what stitch setting do I use? A small stitch with wide spacing with a certain foot?

I bought a blind hem foot, but I can't work out how to use it. I think it's the wrong thing as my manual seems to show is as a fold?

It’s a blind hem stitch, I think, the one that looks a bit like this (or something like that anyway). Then it’s to do with how you fold the fabric. Not sure where the foot comes in, I haven’t tried it yet, but I know the theory at least?

This seems a helpful guide, I’m planning on using it as I’m going to be making curtains soon, I hope!

The other ,very acceptable, method is to take up from the top .

Take off the curtain tape , and sew back on when you have cut the required amount off .

That way you keep the professional hem !

I can't explain but I can tell you that everything I know can be learnt via the school of youtube.

Yes, it's a blind hem foot. Every time I make curtains I have to figure out anew how to fold the fabric to achieve the blind hem; I've made a sample piece which is kept in my sewing machine manual. There are lots of tutorials on the web; one here

If the fabric is delicate I'd have sewn the hem by hand. Would have, until I read Trumpton's idea which is genius.
I recently altered DF's heavy brocade curtains and the fabric pulled in the machine so I had to do it by hand. Interested to know if there's another option.

@Knittedfairies yes that's it.. thanks you.. I will read again in the morning, it's been a long day and my brain went a bit 🤯 reading that. I can see with the photos that it's so much easier to see than the one pic in sewing machine manual. I gave up trying to figure it out on last pair of trousers I took up, but it would look so much better done properly. I have two small children, so was rushing.
