..must be really soft and preferably in dark red - oxbloodish colour..

..problem is I have never knitted in my life!

How do I go about it?

I really recommend this book, instructions are really clear and simple.

I've tried loads of ways to learn to knit and honestly, this is the only one that's worked!

If you can get to a branch of John Lewis, they often have in-store classes where you can learn to knit.

Which town are you from? I can probably tell you if you have a yarn shop nearby who may also be able to teach you how to knit.

I don't know if you are near Maldon, but there is a shop there called Peachey Ethknits homepages.force9.net/ethknits/frames/frame.htm
They may be able to help you

A friend of mine makes special trips out there from Hackney to shop there - so they must be pretty good .
