Embroidery or cross stitch for beginners

Although enthusiastic I've never been any good at crafty things, I barely even sew on a button! Despite this I'm really keen in trying either an embroidery or cross stitch beginner's kit, can anyone tell me which is easier to start with for someone with limited patience and capability such as myself please?

Cross stitch is definitely easier

But it's a bit like comparing rowing & running.

Woolwarehouse is pretty good for kits ( start with a kit then you'll have everything you need)

A counted cross stitch kit (rather than printed or stamped) is probably the best way to start, they come with fabric, thread, needle and a chart. The fabric has an open weave so it's easy to know where to form the stitches.

Thank you, that's so helpful.

@Tatiebee

The lower the number of the Aida (fabric) the easier it is to do (to start with) but it doesn't look as nice when finished

I used to like using black linen, my eyes wouldn't cope now 😢

Not a bad one to start with. woolwarehouse is quite a giid site you can filter quite a lot

Etsy also have some nice kits - stuff that's not the typical animals and flowers and stuff if you fancy something more edgy or modern

I used to do cross stitch patterns and use in cards for people, either for birthdays or Christmas. My mum still has decorations on her tree that we both made in my teens with Cross stitch! I haven't don't it in years, but I used to love it, and preferred it to embroidery.

Also look at Lakeside Needlecrafts, because they have got some super kits. Look for a beginner kit - you'll soon get the hang of it.

I brought a embroidery kit from amazon for beginners, let's see how I get on Grin

Perforated paper is quite good to use for beginners.
It is much easier to handle than fabric.
I think I got mine from Amazon.

I'm so pleased I asked! Lots of great tips, thank you! I have a few beginners kits in my basket from Woolwarehouse, just browsing others as there are so many pretty designs.
