Where can I buy felt online?

I need to get hold of some felt in order to make a simple costume for my dd to wear to a carnival parade next weekend - left till last minute as always hence nice simple felt (no hemming and dd can glue sparkles etc on with ease)
Does anyone know where is good and reliable to buy felt online (preferably with a 24hour delievery service!)

Thanks

A badge well earnt I'm very grateful for all your help

Today I'll be making the over-skirt ready for dd to sew some sequins etc onto after school this evening. I've copied the one from the link you sent and hope it'll look OK - I'm very worried about it for some reason!

I'll post a picture once we're all done

I'm very excited about seeing it!!! And I've had a fab time trying to help!

OK, so I can't use the lining from the jacket - it frays like mad!
All the 'petals' will be made from the same felt...not sure if it'll look a bit plain, even with the sequins etc...I'd have liked the contrast of a different texture.

Maybe I'll make the occasional green net 'petal' shape too, to sit on top of the felt..

I think green net will be fabulous also! Your dd will love it even if it looks an absolute bugger you do realise that don't you?! I had a red indian outfit that my mum made me out of felt once. It had fringing and she put beads on it and made a headress. I can still remember it and it probably wasn't all that fab, but I thought it was.

shouldbe · 13/09/2007 09:33

Blimey! I was just talking to a friend about costumes we had as children and remembering a felt tunic style red indian outfit my mum made me with lots of beads on etc - I always remember it and thought it was the best costume ever

The fairy outfit is coming along very well Dd is loving it so far. The tutu needs a bit more netting which I'm hoping a friend will bring back from town for me today and the over-skirt is done. I didn't need to use green netting in the end, the plum felt with sequins and beads on looks fine as it is.
Dh and I made a start on the wings last night and dd will decorate them after school.
I'm thinking I'll just tie some green netting around dds shoes as I'll never get round to making those felt boots you found a pattern for (lovely as they are, I think they're a bit beyond me!)
Dd says she needs a wand too so I'll have to get a stick from somewhere then she can cover it in ribbon and add a star at the top. As a woodland fairy she can find a stick to use when we're coming home from school

omg! Our mums must have had the same pattern! My mum used to make a lot of clothes for me when I was small, and I had a rag doll she made me from cloth kits. It was a pre printed doll pattern that you cut out and sewed together. I loved it (I wish I still had it!). The costume sounds great, please please please post a pic when you are done, I'd love to see it.

ps I think those boots are a bit beyond me too!

My mum made me loads of clothes too and would always make a matching outfit for my favourite doll I wish I still had them all but they were thrown out my my dad and step-mum when they moved house
I'd like to hope I have some of mums talent hidden away in me waiting to be revealed

Was there a shop called Clothkits? I'm sure I had a dress my mum made from there...

I'll post pictures when we're done

Yes, clothkits was a shop and I am sure it did parties (like tupperware). The doll I had was from there and was called Kitty. I am always looking for a replacement but I can't find one

EllieKat · 13/09/2007 15:56

Gingermonkey, try eBay from time to time! I collect Clothkits kits (well, I'm sad and a child of the 70's, what can I say?) and the odd Cloth Kitty doll has come up. I already have mine from childhood so I've never bid. Be warned, though, they go for lots of pennies!

Good tip!!!! I shall keep my beady eye open. My mum told me mine fell to pieces eventually after being dragged through the mud so often and washing machine abuse (remember those twin tub washing machines and the days before non bio powder?!). I loved clothkits, if only they still did it today (the daughter has her own company, really nice bedroom fabrics for kiddies. Can't remember the name off the top of my head though)

Thanks again!

WOW! That is fab, no wonder she won first prize. (is that red hair I see? I love a ginger nut ....baby monkey is one). The tutu looks great, was that from the pattern? I am making a load for christmas!

shouldbe · 19/09/2007 18:10

Thanks
The tutu was from the pattern and so unbelievably easy to make - no sewing, just tie-ing of elastic and cutting of netting, couldn't be more simple

Dd isn't ginger but ds was as a baby (we used to call him gingermonkey), he's more of a strawberry blonde now

Dd claims winning made Saturday the best day of her life
