I think I need recommendations for a die cutting machine

At least I think thats what I want.

I'm not into crafts at all, but dd is mad about making cards, pictures, etc. Shes forever dragging me in the craft shop to buy patterned paper.

She's only 6 and currently is using scissors to cut stuff up. But shes at the stage where shes wanting to cut out more fancy shapes and I thought a die cutting machine would help.

I'm baffled by the range of Sizzix, Ellison, etc and not even sure how they work. Any advice?

thanks

I have a Sizzix (possibly thinking of selling it ......?????) It works like a biscuit cutter ! You put the die under a block over the paper or card, pull down the handle & the blade inside the die cuts through the paper.
There are loads of new ones about now though - may be a bit complex for a 6yo though?? May be better buying cut shapes off Ebay??

are they hard to operate then?

No They are not hard to use (does require a bit of force to push down & the machine is heavy) but the dies are expensive if you just need them for cutting shapes for children to play with.
I'm considering selling mine + lots of dies as I hardly use it now as beads have taken over my crafting life rather than card making !!

The bigshot is easy to use for a little one!

For the Ellison big shot you just turn the handle and strength is not needed. Sizzix too heavy and hard to use for a 6 year old imo!

Been looking on ebay and see what you mean about the dies been expensive. Maybe we'd be better off with punches.

thanks

if you look on ebay for die cuts - you can often buy packs which would be good - look for the bodies & clothes etc
like this sort of stuff

She'd love them, thanks Whizz.
