Sewing machine recommendations

I have recently done a few sewing workshops and have decided to treat myself to a sewing machine. I have had a look at a few but have no idea what I should be looking at. I want something fairy easy to use, and expect to mostly be making cushions, bags etc. I also quite like the idea of trying some quilting, but can’t imagine myself doing anything too elaborate.

So, wise crafters, can anyone suggest what I need to be looking for, or even better, does anyone have a machine they would recommend. My budget is a bit flexible, although I won’t be spending huge money - day £300 Max ideally, but I could spend more if it’s really necessary.

I would go to somewhere like John Lewis and let them show you a few machines. There might be certain functions you like/don’t like, or things not worth paying for if you’ll never use them.

For up to £300 you could get something pretty decent. Most brands are pretty reliable - personally I like Janome but others will have their opinions. It’s best to have a play with a few to see what you like

Thanks Mouldygrapes. I have used a Janome at a class, so will definitely look at those and maybe make a trip to JL to get some advice.

I have this one;
www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00AU2GFXO/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?psc=1&tag=mumsnetforu03-21&ie=UTF8

It's lovely- simple to use, very reliable and has a one-stop buttonhole and a self-threading widget. The threading widget is amazing! I bought a walking foot and a quarter inch seam foot separately (just generic ones) and I happily make all of my quilts using it. It's also half your budget!

Look at the Singer outlet, they have some amazing machines £300 & under.

Look at Hobbycraft or the Singer outlet, they have some brilliant machines fairly cheap.
