Can someone talk to me about cricut machines please?

I am seriously thinking about getting one of these machines but don't really know much about what they can and can't do.

At present I have a big shot.

Anyone got one?

Good or bad experiences?

What type of crafting do you do? There are two Cricut machines that will cut through different materials. the Explore Air 2 is great for paper, vinyl so you can personalise things like notebooks and water bottles and also iron on so that you can add design to clothes and bags. Then there’s the Maker that you can get different blades for. It comes with a rotary blade to cut fabric and you can get a knife blade to cut through chipboard and basswood.

I've been and bought one this morning. I make cards, soap, candles, scrunchies, patchwork cushions, and well basically anything.

I have had a little play this afternoon and slowly finding my way round things. Have watched a couple of you tube videos that have helped.

Does anyone purchase the monthly subscription?

I LOVE my Cricut! I've got an Air 2 - which one did you get?
I didn't bother with the monthly subscription as there are so many sites offering free SVGs it wasn't worth it. You can also download images from the automated internet and clean them up in Design Space.

I really, really want one, I just can't warrant spending that sort of money though. I am thinking if I can save some money up I might get a cricut joy, maybe. I do have a bit of form for starting hobbies and switching after a few months...Blush

I really really want one too. I also can not justify it due to my hobby-flitting tendancies 😂

MinkowskisButterfly · 04/04/2020 19:58

@SoupDragon 😂

So, 25 days later and it seems I accidentally ordered one the other day... either that or the courier has made a mistake.

Willpower is not my strong point.

MerryDeath · 05/05/2020 08:18

i want one but i don't know why. i don't even really understand what they do or how they do it! tbh i think that's why i want one! no doubt i'll cave one of these days.

I thought about it and wasn't sure about it's flexibility for my own designs, cutting fabric etc. So I am thinking about the Brother Scan and Cut instead

I didn't even get to play with mine as, when I opened it, it had been damaged at point of manufacture so it's had to go back. They won't have more stock til the end of the week (as an aside, great customer service from the people I bought from. They seem to have a good selection of vinyl sheets etc too)

MerryDeath · 05/05/2020 12:46

can anyone with experience explain how pattern cutting would work? can you only cut small prices? does the fabric feed through somehow??

MerryDeath · 05/05/2020 12:46

(if i were to get one it would be the maker)

Jakc · 05/05/2020 13:14

The biggest size you can cut is 11.5 x 23.5

Jakc · 05/05/2020 13:15

The fabric gets stuck to a mat and it feeds into the machine

SoupDragon · 12/05/2020 09:24

I finally have mine and I know I am going to love it (although I now have no idea what to make with it!)

It's the Design Space thing, if I buy one of the designs, is it mine forever, staying on some kind of library?

SoupDragon · 12/05/2020 10:26

I'm thinking it's a "cost per use" though.

heat transfer vinyl for customising clothing (t-shirts are fun).
